1900 mile road trip done

1900 mile road trip done

This is my around town commuter car. I have an older full size SUV I usually take on road trips. On this family road trip I was solo so I decided to drive my Kicks from Georgia to Arkansas to Texas and back.

The good. Good gas mileage. About 33mpg driving between 75-85 on the Interstate, a/c was ice cold which helped in the 100+ heat, and seats were comfortable even after a full day on the road.

The bad. The road noise gets annoying on long trips. Not much wind noise but it’s not quiet. Gas tank is small. Only about 300 miles on a tank of gas. It would be nice to go another 150 miles without having to refuel. Finally, the power. The Kicks has no problem in city traffic but at 70 and trying to pass someone the cvt goes into high (gear?) but the speed doesn’t move much.

I think next time I’ll take my SUV and pay a little extra for the gas and just drive the Kicks on my city commute.

Who do I contact with a cable line that has fallen on to my front yard?

I am not a customer of Xfinity/Comcast but there is a cable that fell off the utility pull in my front yard.

I called the power company thinking they could put it back up. When they arrived they said it was a cable/internet coax cable and I need to contact the cable company. I traced it down that Comcast is the only cable company in our area.

I have yet to get a hold of a person calling the Comcast number. It keeps asking for my account number (I don’t have one). Their A.I. phone tree is horrible and it’s frustrating when it makes me repeat myself over and over to never get a hold of an actual person. I have not been able to talk to someone about fixing the downed line.

Does anyone have a number to Comcast that I can have them call a line worker and fix this cable?

It’s been fun but the water pump finally gave out.

My 2012 CX-9 with 187k miles on it finally got the dreaded water pump leak into the oil. I have read about this and thought “I haven’t had that issue. Maybe I’m lucky.”

I dropped it off at an independent mechanic I trust and have used before. He sent me an estimate of $3800 to fix it. I feel like it’s not worth it. My 13 years of ownership have of this car have been great. I have replaced all the window regulators at least twice but other than that the car has been quite trouble free.

Time to start a search for a lower mileage vehicle.

Odd vertical anomaly seen from plane.

Last night (June 4) I was flying from Seattle to Boston on the redeye. Around 2am over the North Dakota, Canadian border I looked out the window facing north and saw this vertical cloud that looks like to goes into space. Any idea what it may have been?

Car shopping recommendations.

I am shopping for a car for the first time in 14 years. I am looking at a 2-3 year old 3 row SUV. I like the Mazda CX-9 and the Nissan Frontier but still would like to drive several more to see how I like them. The issue is I have had some bad experiences at the three dealers I’ve visited so far.

Each visit has been a frustrating experience. Mainly the $4-6k in additional fees above the listed price and taxes but also one was uncomfortably pushy, another kept trying to upsale me on a new car. I believe I said “no” to a new car about a dozen times that listed for $10k more.

Anyone here have a good dealership experience in the Atlanta-metro area? If so please help me recommendations. A place I can just drive a car to see if I like it without having to meet multiple managers and answer the question, “Sit down. How can we get you in this car today.” from multiple people?

Like I said this will be the first car I’ve bought in 14 years so I plan to keep my new one a long time.

Thanks.

I test drove a 2015 Lexus LX570 and really liked it. Everything but the headroom. I am a tall person and my head touches the ceiling. Are there any 200 series Land Cruisers or LX 570s that are not optioned with a sunroof? I have searched online and all the ones listed seem to have a sunroof. Usually a car without a sunroof has an extra 2 inches of headroom.
