Update on Rook 🐾

Update on Rook 🐾

Hello everyone! First and foremost I would like to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for the attention of sweet Rook. I haven’t been in this area long and now know I made the right decision in my choice to live here.

I have currently removed the original post for now while the rescue reached out to possible applications. Thank you all so, so much. I will update soon!

Euthanasia listed for end of next week, anyone looking for a dog??

I don’t know if this is an appropriate place to post but I don’t know what else to do.

I work at a dog training facility and we take in rescues to train to for suitable homes. Unfortunately with that, come euthanasia, to make room for more fosters and intakes.

We have this one dog, his name is Rook. He is a Border Collie/Belgian Malinois cross (maybe?? but we’re really reaching here, definitely border collie)

He is a peculiar fella who needs stability and a calm environment. I have developed a deep bond with him and am able to speak first hand at how loving he can be.

He does have some quirks:

He is slow to warm up to people from years of abuse and always met with an extremely heavy hand.

He is select with dogs but loves to play and his current best friend is an absolutely insane Belgian Malinois who I couldn’t believe would ever make a friend so idk what that says about him.

He prefers calm environments where his person is home more often than not home but could absolutely handle a standard 8 hour work day.

While he isn’t quite ready to be a brewery dog he will absolutely value a connection and is seeking love more than anything. He would love to go on hikes or daily errands in the car.

He is crate trained, knows all obedience commands, and is ecollar trained for off leash freedom.

Personally, if him and my current dog got along I would adopt him in a heart beat but my dog is very old and grumpy even though Rook tried his best.

I would honestly be willing to work with whoever adopted him outside of my job because I care about him so much if that was allowed with my job

If I can post pictures I will.

I love this little fruit bat.

*EDIT*

-I really believe 5 milligrams of Prozac or CBD would do wonders for him. I gave him a higher dose of CBD for several days and it seemed to take the edge off. This could also be because he is in a kennel environment and it is a lot of energy but the CBD did help. He gets a decent amount of physical exercise and I have started putting him in scent work classes, and he is a natural. Not sure what could become of that but he seems to really enjoy that type of work, even if just for fun.

*EDIT 2*

-I’ve never seen him around children but suspect because he is sensitive of spacial pressure (because of not so friendly experiences) he would do best in a home with children 8+ or a dog smart child. Again, I have never seen him around children because there aren’t many that come into the facility where I work.

~*EDIT 3*~

I am so grateful for the outpour of support and love for this guy. I am starting to get a little overwhelmed with messages and don’t want to miss anyone so I will be posting the link to the rescue Rook is with.

https://www.woofproject.org/

His point of contact is Darby and she will get meet and greets set up OR if you are not local and seem like a good fit, she will schedule transportation.

I will let Darby know about interest in Rook on Sunday, May 24th so she can start to get the ball rolling and everyone has a chance at getting an application in.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR WANTING TO HELP ROOK! 💜🐾

Getting sober? Withdrawal??

Planning on stopping smoking for the first time in 5-ish years. I’ve done it once for a big-kid job but I wasn’t as mentally “addicted” as I was now. Very scared, but also very ready for this next step.

I know about the withdrawal symptoms but was just wondering if anyone had anything to help with the process?? Send good vibes my way.

It might not be forever, but it’s time.

My girl just turned 8, last vet check (Oct/Nov 2025), she was healthy other than starting to show signs of the beginning stages of arthritis in her right hip and needing to lose a few pounds. I expected the vet to say she needs to lose a few pounds, normal for her because we’re less active in the winter.

The last couple of months I’ve noticed small things.

Increased water intake and never seeming to feel full. She has always had access to water, 24/7, and we do feedings at scheduled times. I’ve also noticed her hair isn’t looking as shiny, almost thinner and dull? Albeit it was the winter and our exercise drastically decreases, she’s seems more sleepy but is still always down for a car ride or just to be apart of whatever we’re doing, daily errands especially.

Noticeable muscle loss in her hind legs and weakness. She doesn’t seem up to our normal hikes/long walks as she used to.

She is my first senior dog as a proper adult and a giant breed on top of that. Idk what I’m looking for; a shared experience, sympathy for watching a dog you love age, supplement and canine workout methods???

She takes Cosequin, fish oil, probiotic, bee pollen, and beef liver (raw or freeze dried whichever is cheaper)- looking to add supplements and raw toppers. She has an incredibly sensitive stomach and a poultry allergy, so we stay away from any animal with feathers as a precaution. We have her main meals perfected so not worried about changing that anything with that.

tldr; it’s hard watching your dog age and sometimes it makes me cry
