I hate My Asus PC

My laptop reaches up to 95°C in “Balanced” mode, then aggressively throttles the clock speed down to around 400 MHz. It waits until it cools down, then repeats the exact same cycle all over again.

The interesting part is this: when the system limits itself to around 60–65W(manual mode), the device stays under 85°C. But the moment it is allowed to go up to 70W(default balanced), it climbs straight toward 95°C and performance collapses again.

So this does not look like a hardware overheating issue. It looks like a poorly managed power and fan profile. The device is only five months old, yet with ASUS Control Interface version 3.1.64.0, a problem that could likely be addressed with a simple software update is left completely out of the user’s control.

I take it to service, and they say there is no issue. I contact ASUS USA asking for an update, and the response is essentially, “What do you expect us to do?” In other words, there is a product, but no real accountability.

When I use Manual mode and lock the CPU around 60W, the laptop performs well for a while. But then the GPU does not heat up enough, the fan behavior becomes unbalanced, and the CPU fan starts spinning unnecessarily fast, making the device loud. A proper cooling balance is left to the user, while the software does not even provide the tools to manage it properly.

At this point, saying that AI smarter then ASUS software team no longer feels like sarcasm.

I am honestly embarrassed to use this device. The issue is not that the laptop gets hot; the issue is that it is being managed badly, repeatedly, and with no meaningful support. ASUS appears unable to properly follow its own product lines or configure basic power limits in a reasonable way.

I am posting this here because I have not been able to find a responsible point of contact anywhere else. If you are considering buying an ASUS laptop, especially gamin ones, My advice: think twice.

For anyone playing Forza Horizon 5 on PC with a DualSense controller, there’s now a Python project that brings adaptive trigger support to the Steam version.

It reads FH5’s Data Out telemetry through UDP and sends real-time trigger commands to the DualSense. That means the left trigger gets progressively stiffer while braking, ABS/tire slip can create a pulsing trigger effect, the throttle has light resistance, gear shifts create a short thump, and the rev limiter can trigger a buzz effect.

This is not official support; it runs as a separate Python service. Steam Input can still handle normal rumble, while this tool focuses on the adaptive trigger effects.

Features:

  • Forza Horizon 5 PC / Steam
  • DualSense via USB or Bluetooth
  • Brake resistance
  • ABS / tire slip pulse
  • Light throttle resistance
  • Gear shift thump
  • Rev limiter buzz

Setup basics:

  • Enable Data Out in FH5
  • Set IP to 127.0.0.1
  • Set port to 5300

If you play FH5 on Windows Steam with a DualSense, this is definitely worth trying.

If there are any desired effects, I can set those up as well. Just open an issue.

As usual, Asus isn’t saying what’s changed or what’s been fixed. Just what you’d expect from a company that’s a total mess.

But an update came out. I installed the update because my device was crashing when it went to sleep in GPU mode and then woke up again; I’m checking to see if it’s fixed (it’s a common issue, ASUS forgot to configure the PCIe settings, or maybe they’re intentionally messing up the system to force users to replace their devices).
