Hi!
I'm looking for a run and gun little mini flash. I was really attracted to the Lux Junior II which is currently on presale, as it seemed to have all the features I am looking for. The IT32 is also very appealing, as it seems like a complete flash but much more compact.
I liked the idea of buying the im30 etc. but felt I wanted a little more functionality, and since I use a lot of very wide angle lenses, I was worried it might create that lens shadow (too low on the camera body).
I recently bought Panasonic Lumix S5 so would be looking to mount it on there, as well as my many various film cameras (Nikon F / Rollei 35 / etc). Are godox flashes compatible with film cameras?
I would appreciate anyone's thoughts and opinions on the matter!
I've been learning to repair/CLA Pentax Spotmatics recently, and decided to build Ben Pirt's shutter speed tester (https://github.com/bjpirt/shutter-tester) for the A part of CLA.
It's attached to a fresh body in the photo as the one I'm learning on is still in pieces while I let re-cemented curtains settle. Works pretty great!
And of course, this Spotmatic has a slow second curtain.
Hi!
A while back, my workhorse Sony a7sII got stolen and I have been putting off replacing it for a while, but now I really am slowly feeling the need to replace it. I used the a7sII as a film/video and photo camera. Even with its many limitations, I really enjoyed the quality it produced. Still, I'm concerned about the cost of replacing it, and am not sure whether to save up for an upgrade, or find a cheaper camera that still ticks all my boxes (more below).
Budget: $1000+ (willing to wait till 2027 to save more for better. Camera body only)
Country: South Africa
Condition: Used / New
Type of Camera: Mirrorless
Intended use: Photo & Film/Video
If photography; what style: street & documentary photography, portraits, more on-the-fly type of photography.
If video what style: documentary and poetic film/video. Also on-the-fly type of shooting.
What features do you absolutely need & Portability:
Cameras you already have had: Sony a7sII. I am now shooting casual photos with my sister's hobby camera, the Fuji XT1 with a Nikon speedbooster adapter for my film lenses.
I actually liked the lesser megapixels on the a7sII, which I felt produced a more natural image - almost more "film/analogue"... I can't explain it, but when I compared with the Sony a7Riv and Sony a7, I really didn't like the rendition of spotty grain and detail.
The one major downside of the Sony a7sII was that the video quality/compression (4:2:0 / 8bit) was somewhat limiting. I felt it when I used some of its footage for a feature doccie a few years ago.
I have been enjoying shooting photos ln the Fuji XT1. Its low light performance is very weak though, and it struggles with colour flexibility and grading... But I have been able to emulate a more analogue approach with it. Video is not worthwhile at all.
Cameras you're considering:
Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated 🙏 I don't have access to test all of these cameras, so it would be amazing to hear from the community at large for their opinions.
so much of the world's knowledge, especially older knowledge like film photography, is best learned from books. And they're often dirt dirt cheap!
Hi guys!
I'm 5.5 months post-surgery, and wonder if the [P]rehab App is worthwhile?
I found their youtube videos worthwhile when I was first doing my prehab and rehab, and wondered if any of you guys have tried out the app?
Edit: Oh wait, I see they only have a "Prehab" for ACL surgery programme, and knee strengthening... Still curious, but maybe not relevant for me at 5 months post-op.
