I made the mistake of letting Starclan guide my paws…

No shade on the official merch, my partner was joking about Warriors action figures so I was acting dramatic. Also, is cussing allowed in this sub? I censored this post to be safe, but I might need to edit a couple parts of the essay if I ever finish it and post it here.

I know it’s a dumb question because… Reddit, but this is technically a community for a franchise marketed to 8~12 y/o.

[Request] let’s calculate the inbreeding coefficient of this character from a Children’s feral cat fantasy saga!

Note: “Kit” is clan slang for “kitten”, aka kids.

Warriors is [technically] a children’s fantasy book series about rival clans of feral cats that spans 8~10 generations over 50+ book in the main time line. Almost every character in every clan has a name, a backstory, and a family lineage traceable to the characters from the first 6 books. I’ve jokingly pitched Warriors as Game of Thrones meets Watership Down, presented as a soap opera dressed in early internet edginess. Just like Game of Thrones, Warriors also has a bit of an incest issue.

Similar to IRL populations of small isolated gene pools, the saga has been developing an inbreeding problem. Erin Hunter, the pen name for the team of authors writing the series, has attempted to address the situation by updating the clan’s moral code to allow cats to change clans, but the change came too late. (Plus with so many authors pumping out multiple books a year, they keep forgetting small details like who’s related to who)

Without further ado, meet Moonpaw, our current generation’s protagonist. As seen in the second image, her family wreath has 3 instances of inbreeding, and her entire bloodline originates with one couple. The commenter in the r/WarriorCats subreddit was able to work out a louse ballpark of her inbreeding coefficient, but I’d love to know just how inbreed she is.

There has to be something wrong. There’s no way my SWR is that perfect. Is it?

I’ve been trying to get a healthy SWR for years! I started with a Wilson 2000 on the stock mount, then an aftermarket mount with a DIY grounding strap as it’s on a plastic arm. It was slowly getting worse so I went back to the stock mount/coax with a firestick 2. Over the winter my SWR slowly degraded to 8.5.

Over the winter I worked on a plan, Project DXing Hail Mary (I know, I know, I just couldn’t resist the fun name). A friend gave me a 2019 Cobra Classic Nightwatch with a broken mic, so I found a CB shop operating out of a shipping container to have it fixed and tuned, then I picked up a better coax and a proper grounding strap. I verified everything was properly grounded to the frame, no ground to the antenna its self, then fired it up!

The S/RF and calibration functions worked fine, but except for the occasional hardly visible twitch, SWR did nothing. Thinking it was broken, I got an external SWR reader. At or below an SWR of 1. I tried my old bearcat 880, it’s probably fried from 6 months of use with an SWR of 8.5, but it’s fancy digital display showed 1.17. Either it’s not reading any power coming back because it’s fried and not putting any power out, or I have a near perfect SWR. I reinstalled the cobra and called for a radio check; the results were… inconclusive. That story could be a post all its own, so I’ll include it separately at the end.

After YEARS of struggling to get my SWR below 3 AND my antenna still being on a plastic arm, I just can’t believe I have a near perfect SWR. Is it possible something is giving me an inaccurate reading, or do I really have a perfect SWR?

~

The radio check story:

I’m in an area with low CB usage, so when i called for a radio check I only got one “you’re good” from someone circling the lot right in front of me. I responded with “Thank you, have a wonderful day.”, but she must have heard “Thanks Dude, have a wonderful day” because she started chewing me out, saying “Who are you calling a dude? I’m a chick, not a dude”. Her transmission was coming through clear, so I responded “I know, I’m also a woman so I get it, but I didn’t call you a dude. How well am I coming through on your end?”. She was too intent on chewing me out to answer my question, so I shut off the radio. I obviously wasn’t coming through clearly, but it’s unclear whose radio was at fault.

Someone just hit my truck…

I was trying to sleep. She backed into the back of my trailer. Didn’t feel any harder than hitting a dock. She was freaking out. Said she’d only been driving for a month. I didn’t see any damage. Tested my lights, all seems good.

I asked her if she’d learned a lesson. She said yes. I told her this never happened.

Never forget what your first couple months over the road was like.

Is this a good shortcut / bypass for the Salt Lake metropolitan area?

I’ve always taken I84 to I80 through Ogden, but today I was going to hit Ogden near rush hour and my new GPS was recommending this route. My schedule has some wiggle room, so I figured I’d take the scenic route.

I’ve been enjoying something a bit more engaging than interstate, there’s been barely any traffic, and even at midnight there’s still plenty of parking. I know with slow hill climbs it’ll take more than 1hr 10min, but the other route has lots of traffic. Other drivers make me nervous, so I’d gladly take a small delay to avoid Salt Lake.

Realistically, how much slower is this route? Would you recommend it as a bypass?

I’ve noticed that whenever I grab my flute, even when I have no intention to practice, I always play the same little tune. The embellishments change depending on my mood, but the notes are always the same.

For those curious, I’m playing a Native American flute in G minor. As for the background, I’m in the sleeper cab of my semi truck.

The cable was the perfect length to block my view of my passenger side nose mirror, so I shortened it with a zip tie. I figured putting it through the center of the loop (second image, red line) would cause the least abrasion.

Third image is how it hangs naturally, plus my dog tax payment. :)
