Oregon Metal Spotlight #3: Maggot Sorcerer (Oregon/Washington area)

Today’s band: Maggot Sorcerer

These guys describe themselves as “Scooby-Doo Groove Metal,” and honestly, that’s one of the most accurate band descriptions I’ve ever heard.

Every state has bands that should be getting way more attention than they do. For Oregon, Maggot Sorcerer is one of them.

Psychedelic artwork, GodTier song titles, crushing riffs, and a sound that feels like a haunted cartoon soundtrack got trapped inside a metal album.

My personal favorite track is “Centipede Woman.” That song is absolutely brutal and has been stuck in my head for days.

If you’ve never checked them out, do yourself a favor and give them a listen.

Trying to shine a light on some killer bands from around Oregon.

Today is Nerve Damage out of Hood River. If you’re into old-school death metal, crushing riffs, and dark atmosphere, check out their Leviathan demo.

Oregon’s metal scene is deeper than just Portland, and bands like this deserve more attention.

Death metal fans: what band does this remind you of?

My band Acidic Decay released our first Album after years of jamming and doing nothing with it and we’ve been getting wildly different comparisons. Some people hear old-school death metal, others hear thrash influences.
FFO: Obituary, Bolt Thrower, old-school death metal riffs.

Curious what you hear.

Sink by Floater deserves way more attention

I’ve been revisiting Sink by Floater lately and forgot how solid this album is front to back. The mix of heavy riffs, atmosphere, and weird progressive songwriting makes it stand out from a lot of late 90s rock albums.

It’s one of those records that gets better every time you listen to it. Some songs hit hard immediately, while others take a few listens before they really click.

For anyone who hasn’t heard it, I’d definitely recommend giving Sink a spin.

What’s your favorite track off the album? And where would you rank it compared to the rest of Floater’s catalog?
