The "Fundamentals" endless cycle problem

So I've been drawing for the better part of two decades. and compared to how I learned to draw. I'm finding myself feeling frustrated for so many beginning artists who enter these spaces. Because I just keep seeing time and time again, pages full of circles, lines, and shapes. without ever taking the time to make finished drawings.

Essentially it's like playing a tutorial thousands of times and never getting to the actual meat of a game and I'm just like. Am I crazy for thinking this? do y'all know something I don't?

Like as drills for building better line confidence and loosening up before a big drawing session I 100% feel these work well!

But I keep seeing people here run these drills while others keep telling them to work on different fundamentals.

Yes, Form, Perspective, Gesture, Anatomy, Composition, Value, Lighting, are ALL important I will not deny that at all.

But this type of teaching as far as I can tell doesn't seem to actually lead to many finished images.

Two of my favorite quotes that I come back to hundreds of times over is

We all have 10,000 bad drawings in us. The sooner we get them out the better- Walt Stanchfield

And "Dude, suckin’ at something is the first step to being sorta good at something" -Jake the dog.

Your first images won't be great. but you're getting them out and building mileage. and in my personal opinion, that's going to do you so much better than spamming a thousand circles

Tired of "Would you play a (insert game premise) game?" posts

I keep seeing these constantly when I open Reddit and I'm tired of it.
most of the time it's just self promo fishing for engagement disguised as a question.

And like. maybe I would, but not this one.

Stop focusing on style

Recently I have been seeing a lot of "Is my style good?" or "is my style unique?" posts coming through and I just really feel the need to say.

Most of you are way too focused on style while lacking good basic fundamentals.

I did the same thing back when I was a young teen so I get it. but seriously, stop worrying so much on if your style is unique or not before you've even gotten a good grasp on the basics.

Anatomy, line confidence, form, and perspective should be your focus right now, not worrying if your style is unique.

How to deal with abusive mods?

I feel the mods at another subreddit are abusing mod powers because they instead of taking accountability for being wrong about a decision. they instead are banning anyone that brings it up.

What would count as "mod abuse" and what can be done about mod abuse?

Edit. Fair enough. now I'm just here to learn
