Is true that Lyft banned my dad because he’s over 65?

My dad used to drive for Uber but was permanently banned. He stated it was because his account was hacked and the hackers filed for fraudulent cleaning charges. So, he decided to drive for Lyft and refused to appeal the Uber ban. Now, Lyft banned his account a few days ago. He claimed it’s because he’s over the age of 65. I reached the company policies and found nothing about such policy. I wanted to ask this Reddit if they know anything regarding why Lyft permanently banned his account?

How to deal with an antisocial dad and an emotionally immature mom?

My father no longer wants to work. My mother has been working two jobs since Covid. She’s a full time teacher and does uber after her teaching shifts. During Covid my father also didn’t work while she did. There is a pattern I notice where my mom works more than my dad. Now, he doesn’t want to work at all after Lyft permanently deactivated his account. Previously, Uber also banned his account. He claimed Uber made such decisions because his account was hacked and the hackers filed for fraudulent cleaning charges. Regarding Lyft, he alleges it’s because he’s over the retirement age.

I researched Lyfts policy and found nothing about them banning accounts for such reason. I suspect my dad is hiding the real reason. Which breaks my heart.

I have been paying my mom’s, sister, and brother’s phone bill for years. I even purchased her new phones. I no longer want to have her on my phone bill. I told her I’ll give her until August to transfer her phone number. She became extremely defensive and tried to guilt trip me into believing that I am terrible person for suddenly wanting to get her off the bill. Especially after my dad was just ban from driving Lyft. I am devastated. My parents have caused me depression for years. I can never seem to find true happiness because of them. How do I handle this situation. I am 100% independent and live alone. But I no long want my mom to depend on me financially in any shape or form.

Laid off for the 3rd time in 5 years. Please help!

Our documentation team is officially facing a layoff after leadership decided to fold our responsibilities into the PM and engineering teams. This has left me so distraught. In fact, I knew something was off when one PM sent me their draft articles to copy edit, which was so odd. I did it anyway. Then they asked me to publish them, just to get hit with the layoff news a week later.

I understood why they were rushing me to complete the copy edits on so many articles in such a short time span. I still did it anyway, which I also realize wasn’t the smartest move. I overexerted myself, working so hard to complete insane task loads that take weeks in just days.

Now, I am simply devastated. I have no savings. Only two weeks of severance. I’m trying not to panic. I want to be realistic. What other opportunities should I consider? I worry about pursuing another technical writing role just to experience yet another layoff.

Did my manager lie about contract renewal confirmation?

Last week, I was advised by my manager that my contract renewal was confirmed for an additional six months. They shared this with the recruiting agency. This week, my manager let me know that they’re actually experiencing company-wide budget constraints. Meanwhile, my contract ends in two weeks.

The recruiting agency let me know that they were just as surprised as I was. They plan on reaching out to find out more details about the cause of the sudden shift in decisions.

I would like to understand:

  1. Why did the manager definitively confirm that the contract was being renewed when clearly it wasn’t?
  2. Did they strategically misrepresent the contract renewal to motivate me to do as much work as possible before the approaching contract end date?
  3. Why would they tell the recruiting agency that the renewal was confirmed when that was not the case?
  4. Are they a dishonest manager whom I shouldn’t trust with communications?

Crime scene by Branch Brook park playground

Does anyone know why is there a crime scene unit at the Branch Brook park playground? I witnessed them this morning and couldn’t find any news about it.

I have 8 YoE in technical writing, 5 of which were spent at Apple, and a lot of my projects were extremely successful.

Yet, I haven’t found a full-time job in 2 years. I’ve been a contractor ever since I got laid off from a startup company, which I left Apple to join (I know. My fault. Right?). Every contract has been hell: poor management, FT employees barely doing any work while I do all the heavy lifting for a fraction of the pay. No training. No PTO. No benefits. No retirement plan. NOTHING. Plus, I took a 60% pay cut. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

  1. Should I get out of tech?
  2. Am I wasting time applying to FT jobs through LinkedIn and direct company websites?
  3. Should I build a portfolio?

I worked tirelessly. I understand AI has complicated the market like never before. I’m simply burned out. I want a change. I can’t go years living like this anymore.
