Anyone realize this about their parents as you got older?

I feel like I just need to get something off my chest about my parents. I had both parents growing up, mom was great, dad was abusive, but i did have both.

I am 35 now. And it deeply saddens me to feel like I dont know what it feels like to have a true mom and dad. It took me until my mid 20s to accept my mom was an addict her whole life. She functioned well when I was a kid but as I grew into a teen I always wondered why I found her unconscious on the floor. Many times calling 911 and not even grasping the concept as a kid as to why she was even going to rehab. It took me a long time to accept this.

My dad and I for the first time when I turned 33 (very recent) started speaking again. But it still feels like something is heavily missing between us.

I have been thinking recently and coming to the realization that I never had real parents. I left the house at 15 and then moved across the country when I was 19 all by myself. I raised myself. And that makes me very sad. I am proud of myself, dont get me wrong, but sad I didnt have my parents along the way.

My mom is now very sick, her time could be any day. My dad lives far, but we make a point to talk on the phone a few times a week, which is nice. But knowing if I went through a financial crisis or any kind of crisis he said he cant be there for me. And that breaks my heart. (Hes always been that way)

Anyone else like myself as they got older feel this way? It took me a long time to really feel this situation out and to look at it for what it really is. Genuinely makes me very sad.

I dont fault them, we are human and make grave mistakes. But man, do I wish I felt like I at least had some sort of real parent connection...

Thank you for reading.

If you live alone, have no help, laid off, what did you do?

My job is going to mass lay off (again) in 3 months. Im 100% sure ill be apart of that layoff this time, I feel lucky I even made it this far when they started layoffs tail end of last year.

I live alone. No help from family. Im scared shitless. I will apply for unemployment the moment it happens (I have been actively looking for new work for 3 months) but I know unemployment will only be about half my check right? Then I guess i could get food stamps too. But what else is everyone doing who are in my shoes with no help at all? Please, any advice, I am terrified.

Thank you.

Whats up living alone gang? Also my first time. 35f

Not sure if im still considered "new to living alone" but it sure feels that way after a year! (In a couple of weeks). Looking to connect with others and how they enjoy their time alone. :)

My ex and I lived together for a very long time, we split, I live alone now, and it was the hardest thing ive had to go through but im doing well id say! Curious though, what do you all do when youre alone and off work? I have my hobbies but sometimes I dont wanna do any of those hobbies and looking for new things.

What do you guys enjoy doing while living alone?
