I really hate the Grimwald Nox sieges in Ys IX

I genuinely don't understand why it's designed so poorly. I've read some posts where people preferred it to Ys VIII's sieges, but I cannot disagree more.

All the defensive battles are just brute force skill spam simulator. Why? It's because of this list of defects:

  • Small map with everything cramped in a tiny spot
  • Ritual Relics like the Decoys are poorly placed, allowing for monsters to just spam destroy your Sphene
  • The Sphene is extremely fragile compared to the gate in Ys VIII. It's also positioned in the middle where it can get attacked by all sides
  • The surprise attacks are always WAY TOO CLOSE to the Sphene
  • Large enemies with big health pool and ranged attacks often spawn in surprise attacks. They can easily destroy the Sphene just by moving
  • Ranged attacks will often bypass Decoys and hit the Sphene
  • The strongest enemies often ignore the Decoys and go straight for the Sphene
  • Enemies will sometime ignore aggro for no reason
  • All of the above leads to infinite SPAM SPAM SPAM attacks from monsters that will fail your mission quickly.
  • The only way to avoid the above is to use food like Apple Compote or Pie to spam Skills and stunlock all the large enemies/ranged enemies the moment they spawn.
  • It's a problem if your DPS isn't high enough and a ranged enemy spawn in a different spot. You won't kill fast enough to teleport to the new spawns

It just makes the game so frustrating. It's just I'm stuck in a hallway with millions of monsters cramped in with me. The level designer could easily avoid these issues by making the spawn spots a bit further away, not giving large enemies ranged attacks or huge health pool, strategically placing the Relics so they're actually useful, remove cooldown for Lux Cannon, allow more Pentacles, stop making enemies (outside of surprise attacks) ignore Decoys, not letting ranged attacks bypass Decoys and so on.

So much QoL that could fix the Grimwald Nox. It's just a hassle to play because I fail so much compared to the sieges in Ys VIII (where I've never failed even once). It's not fun
