Vegeta is always “number 2” in the anime, yet he holds the crown when it comes to reality, as the number 1 most rated episode in DBZ is a Vegeta moment (Final Atonement. Episode 237)

The highest rated episode in Dragon Ball Z history on IMDb is Final Atonement, which centers completely around Vegeta's sacrifice.
While the writers forced him into second place in the show, Vegeta still took 1# in reality!

Vegeta spent the entire series living in Goku’s shadow. Every single arc follows the exact same pattern: Vegeta trains endlessly, reaches an incredible new level of power, gives a massive speech, and then gets pushed aside just so Goku can unlock a new transformation and save the day. He was literally written to be the eternal number two.

Goku gets the big wins, but Vegeta gets the best storytelling. Goku turning Super Saiyan on Namek was legendary, but Goku was already a pure hero. Vegeta's sacrifice hit harder because of his actual character development. It was a proud, former villain humbling himself, embracing his family, and sacrificing his life for everyone else.

Goku can keep the plot victories, but the single highest rated moment in the entire show belongs to the Prince of all Saiyans.
