I started writing because it makes me happy, and I just want to write down my imagination and what my mind can create. But as soon as I started posting stories online, this happiness turned into something I don't know how to overcome. I started thinking more about votes, kudos, likes, reads, and reach, more than the story and book. And when I see low views and votes, I start feeling, what is the reason behind low likes and votes? And I keep checking my notifications on Wattpad and AO3 many times. Does this happen to you too? Or how did you overcome this situation?
I missed the time i actually feel good after writing my stories and post no where but saved them in my notepad and just forget about it then.
Hi everyone,
I’m a new indie author and still learning how Reddit works.
I’ve noticed that many subreddits have strict self-promotion rules, which I completely understand, but I’m having trouble figuring out where authors are actually allowed to share their books.
Are there any communities you would recommend for new authors who want to promote their work, find readers, or connect with reviewers?
I’m not looking to spam links everywhere — just trying to learn the right way to participate and share my work when appropriate.
Thanks!
Whether you’re a reader or a writer on AO3, which one means the most to you and why?
For me, each feels different. Kudos show appreciation, bookmarks suggest someone wants to return to the story, subscriptions mean they’re invested in what’s next, and comments create a real conversation.
I’m curious how others see it.

A treasure hunt. A forgotten sea. A secret beyond time.
When Victor joins the search for the legendary Valeria Treasure, he discovers a sea that remembers, a mystery buried beneath the waves, and a truth that could change everything.
But the treasure is only the beginning.
After entering a cursed territory beyond the known world, Victor and his crew become trapped in a supernatural time loop governed by a sentient ocean. To survive, they must uncover the truth before the cycle consumes them forever.

After months of writing, editing, worldbuilding, and redesigning covers, I finally published my debut novel, The Heart of the Sea.
It’s the first book in the Tick Tick Tick trilogy, a dark fantasy mystery about a legendary treasure, a sea that remembers, and secrets hidden beyond time.

When you’re browsing AO3 and looking for something new to read, what’s the first thing that makes you click on a fic?
The title? Summary? Tags? Pairing? Fandom? Something else?
When you’re browsing for something new to read, what’s the first thing you notice: the title, cover, blurb, tags, fandom, or the author?
I’m curious how different readers choose their next story.
