Who are Weird Al’s musical arch-rivals?

As far as I’m aware, Al is mostly on good terms with the artists he’s parodied off of.

Well, except Prince ofc lol (cuz he refused to be parodied by Al, so Al has poked fun at Prince in a couple of his songs). Plus Coolio for a while but then Coolio later warmed up to the parody “Amish Paradise” a few years later, which is nice at least :)).

Other than those 2, does Al have any musical arch-rivals (aka people who refused to be parodied by him and/or didn’t like Al’s parodies of their original songs)?

Which of Weird Al’s songs in some of his albums (the ones that didn’t get a music video) do you wish would’ve gotten a music video + why?

Personally, I’d have loved a music video of “Ode to a Superhero“ cuz the image of Al in Billy Joel’s 70s haircut whilst playing the piano would be kinda funny ngl lol 😂

Any pics of Steve, Kimo & Bermuda when they were young in the ‘80s ?

weird ask I know lol, but I ask this cuz I‘m gonna make a comparison post soon(ish) in which I compare the young irl 1980s versions of Steve, Kimo & Bermuda with their respective actors in “Weird : The Al Yankovic Story” (2022), so was wondering if there any available pics of (at least early-mid(ish) ‘80s) Steve, Kimo & Bermuda?

cheers!

That weird trope in period dramas where it’s set in a Non-American/British setting but has most of the Non-American/British characters speak in perfectly fluent American/British English for some weird reason (a rant)

idk what the exact trope is called, but I just gotta talk about it.

that trope in historical/period dramas/comedies/comedy-dramas where, if the characters are and the setting is *explicitly* supposed to take place outside of America and/or Britain and the characters themselves are *explicitly* supposed to have an accent that isn’t an American/British English accent (like for example, the setting takes place in France or Germany or whatever, and the characters are supposed to speak with French or German accents or whatever), except they’re played by actors and actresses who just…speak in their regular American/British English accents.

like, idk that trope is kinda weird to me. Not that I hate it or anything, but smth about that trope just kinda makes me *aware* of the fact that it’s a period piece and the characters are played by actors. Like, obvs that’s what it is happening lol, but I feel like with period pieces you have to *believe* the characters are authentic and stuff, ykwim? Idk how to phrase it properly but what I’m tryna get at here is that, you have to at least (on some level) believe that the characters (even tho they are just fictional, or in some cases, fictionalised versions of real people) are real people and stuff.

I do *kinda* get why this is a thing (I suppose the characters (played by an actor(s)) speaking with the accent of the country that the period piece is set in would probs get annoying after a while lol, as well as other factors such as if an actor(s) can’t do at least a decent Non-American/British accent), but still i’m allowed to complain about it lol.

some period pieces that use this trope (that come to my mind at least) include:

-“The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” (2008)

-“The Sound of Music” (1965)

-“The Death of Stalin” (2017) (ok in TDoS’s case that trope was used intentionally for comedic purposes, but I’m still including that film lol)

-“Hitler : The Rise of Evil“ (2003) (the miniseries starring Robert Carlyle as Adolf Hitler)

there’s probs more examples that use this trope, but these are the examples that came to my head. If there are more examples that use this trope, do let me know!

anyways, let me know y’all’s thoughts on this trope! I’m interested to hear about them fr!

Has Al talked about the album cover for “Mandatory Fun” being inspired by Soviet-era art?

this honestly might be my favourite Weird Al album cover, the homage to/pastiche of/parody of Soviet-era artwork is quite good imo.

i was wondering if Al has explicitly talked about using the Soviet-era artwork style in the album cover?

silly question i know, but i have always wondered about why Al's bandmate and guitarist Jim West is nicknamed "Kimo"?

I know the story behind Al's other bandmate and drummer Jon Schwartz being nicknamed "Bermuda" (cuz "Bermuda Shorts" is an actual brand of, well, shorts, and since Jon's surname is "Schwartz" (which sounds very similar to "Shorts"), there's some clever and funny wordplay going on with "Bermuda Schwartz").

So i was wondering if Jim's nickname "Kimo" also has a similar nickname backstory, or is it maybe cuz idk ig he thought "Kimo" sounded a bit funny as a word or smth?

please let me know!!

For joke reasons, this movie is 100% ABSOLUTELY ACCURATE AND TRUE TO LIFE ‼️‼️‼️

For non-joke reasons, apparently the only 2 things from the film that were actually true were :

(1) Al really did record his debut song “My Bologna“ in a public bathroom

(2) Al apparently really did get his first accordion from a (quite literal) travelling door-to-door salesman

this honestly came to me in a dream lol.

I mean, think about it, they’re both wives of former dic(k)tators, they’re blonde, they both died at age 33 (albeit under WILDLY different circumstance), they’re both called Eva. Atho 1 Eva is arguably more beloved than the other (I mean, Eva Peron literally has her own damn musical about her), and imo that’d serve as the perfect ERB fr.

So, I found out recently that Al was in the historical comedy series “Drunk History” (the og USA version that is) via reading his tv credits on his Wikipedia page, in which you would not believe how shocked I was when I saw who he played lmao 🤣😭

In 2 different DH USA sketches, he played Adolf Hitler (in this sketch) and Adolf Eichmann (in this sketch)

Like, obvs Al is a talented man and actor, but honestly the fact that THE Weird Al (wholesome and cool Weird Al known for making very silly song parodies at that) played not 1 but 2 NAZIS is just crazy fr, and ofc it shows that he’s very talented ofc lol. Still, it just kinda shocked me at first lol.

Imo, I feel like “It’s All About the Pentiums” and “Trapped in the Drive-Thru” are very good musically and lyrically (TitDT especially cuz the fact it dramatically describes an otherwise very normal situation really makes it funny lol), and dare I say, even better than the originals (tho I may be a *tad* biased cuz, uhm, Diddy and R. Kelly can simply fuck off cuz they’re very terrible people)

anyways, let me know (in your opinion) which of Weird Al‘s parody songs are better than the OGs + why in the comment!

something that I’ve noticed about the comedic portrayal/impersonation of Woody Allen (played by Manel Lucas) in the tv sketch show “Polonia” is that, unlike other non-Catalan/Spanish characters in the show (like, say, Trump, Putin, Macron, etc etc) who speak in Catalan but have their original countries’ accents spoken with the Catalan, Woody Allen’s voice is dubbed over by a voice actor whenever he speaks.

To explain what I mean;

for example, Trump (played by Jordi Soriano) speaks in Catalan but has his original American accent when speaking it. Macron (played by David Marcé) speaks in Catalan but has his original French accent when speaking it. Putin (played by Xavi Serrano) speaks in Catalan but has his original Russian accent when speaking it. And so on and so forth.

With the character of Woody Allen, for some reason he originally speaks in English (at least that’s what I presume?), but has some voice actor dub over him in Catalan (I think?), and the voice actor doesn’t really impersonate Allen’s voice really. Is there a specific reason for this? Is it some in-joke within the show regarding why Allen’s character is dubbed by a voice actor and it not being acknowledged by the other characters? Why doesn’t Allen speak Catalan but with his original (and his case, American) accent like the other Non-Catalan/Spanish characters in “Polonia“?

Any answers to this would be appreciated ❤️
