Sharpened and a little polish the 65-69

So meditative. The steel on these old knives is just different than anything new. They take a scary sharp edge with ease and it’s meditative instead of frustrating lol. Also, I use Case Paste instead of Mothers and I have to admit I kind of like it better for some applications.

Some of the collection

Had to grab the cases off the wall since we had a wildfire knocking on our neighborhood. Here are some of my pride and joys.

For those of you with chronic TMJ - did it start when you spent more hours on your phone?

I have a feeling a lot of this TMJ stuff is related to horrible posture from us looking at our phones, and stress from social media.

Black Box - Rogers Bone Winchester

I think these are fairly undervalued. Made with found 1930s Rogers Bone (if i have the story right) in a deep dark brown, they made a few different patterns. I just received this whittler that will become a very regular carry. Excellent little knife. Anyone else have some of these?

Just restored this 1970 6318. About 2.5-3 hours all in. Perfect action. Gorgeous bones. Lets go.

Knife collecting, and when it loses its fizz

Just thought I'd riff here a bit. I've been into these things for my whole life but only got serious about making a strong collection a year ago. I think we can all speak to the excitement of finding the right knife for the right price and the moment of unboxing etc. I have amounted a pretty serious collection of newer GEC, 80s-90s Camillus and 60s through 80s Case knives, and am dipping my toe into the Bill Howard era 2000s Schatt and Morgans - which are, arguably, nicer than any GEC I own. I love...MOST of them. I definitely feel saddled by some that I don't carry, or are too nice to use so they just sit, and I pull them out, open and close them, and put them back on my wall display and then think "I should carry that one day but it's too nice to patina."

Others get in my pocket regularly. My 35 Cattle Knife, my 74s, some of my Copperheads and Whittlers, and I really feel FIZZ and connected to those.

Then there are those "I may be bummed to not have this when it sells out" grabs. I bunch of really high quality Rosecraft stuff that somehow lack any soul or excitement compared to the other stuff. Can't explain why. What do i do with them - they never get carried.

And now I've reached a point where 1) financially I'm in a bit of sticker shock (we all know that feeling) and 2) there isn't much out there that excites me. I"m trying to get into the older stuff, American made knives from 75+ years ago. That is not only spendy, but the knives arrive in various conditions that are sometimes underwhelming and then I feel stuck with the damn thing. For as much as I'm an avid buyer, I'm surprised at how hard it is to sell these off without getting completely hosed by fees. Upside down on every single one that's left the house to a new home.

Anyway, how do you guys keep your excitement for the hobby, or keep your addiction/passion in check?

1996 Winchester

This thing is like 5 inches closed. The amount of stag on this thing- the snap, the flush in 3 for the accessory blades. It’s chef’s kiss.

1975 was a good year for knives. Kinda terrible for cars. Also, FILETS OFF THE GRILL.

Been seeing a lot of praise online for the Victorinox pocket honing rod and the Worksharp field sharpeners. Just curious who likes what here. I was thinking the Spyderco Double stuff ($$) - the work sharp is great in appearance but i dont like the angles they use (25).

DMT paddle sharpener seems ok

what do you guys recommend from experience?

After weeks of waiting I received a few packages today and very frustratingly two of the knives were not as promised in the ads or in the conversations with the sellers. Sometimes going after vintage shit is more frustrating than just ponying up for a new GEC even at secondary market prices. Anyway here is some pretty blue patina on my Cattle knife, cuttin chicken fresh off the grill.
