Well I haven’t use the evolved suit in a while now But Yes like there’s just no way it’s not yes like get this goofy Colgate suit out of my face
Now for those who don’t know who Zil is In the early concept storyboards of cars 2 the true villain Was Zil a failed 1951 Soviet Sports Car Due to Terrible Production Quality he couldn’t Race Haul or even survive normal weather making him the ultimate (lemon) of lemons in the 1950s Zil formed a movement and became the ruthless leader of all the lemon car families he wanted revenge on the World Grand Prix years later storyboards show him as a massive merciless villain who brutally killed/execute undercover agents without hesitation he was ultimately cut from the film because some sources claimed to be say his voice actor passed away before recording lines others say he simply too dark and violent for a cars movie which doesn’t make sense because meanwhile what about that agent who got his engine exploded and Finn mcmissle killing lemon cars anyway:
To me personally I actually think Zil had the potential to be a better overall antagonist than either Professor Z or Miles Axlerod, if Pixar had fully developed him here’s what I mean:
From the deleted concept art and storyboards, Zil immediately looks intimidating.
His black body, single glowing headlight, and stern expression make him resemble a classic film noir crime boss.
He has an almost "phantom" appearance that makes him memorable before he even speaks.
Unlike Professor Z, who is introduced fairly early, Zil feels like someone whose presence alone could build suspense throughout the movie.
Originally, Zil was supposed to be the true leader of the Lemons.
That creates a much stronger hierarchy:
Zil = mastermind/crime boss.
Professor Z = scientist and second-in-command.
The Lemons = loyal followers.
In the finished movie, the leadership feels muddled because Professor Z seems like the boss for most of the film before the twist reveals Axlerod was behind everything.
Having Zil as the clear leader from the beginning could have made the organization feel more believable.
Personally, I think Zil has one of the coolest unused Pixar villain designs.
His design gives off vibes similar to:
classic mafia bosses,
old detective-film villains,
mysterious shadow figures.
Professor Z is distinctive but more eccentric than threatening.
Miles Axlerod looks intentionally harmless to sell the twist, but that also makes him less visually imposing.
This is the biggest unknown.
Professor Z's motivation: Revenge against the world that mocked lemons.
Miles Axlerod's motivation: Become rich by manipulating the alternative-fuel market while framing Allinol.
For Zil, we don't know exactly what Pixar planned.
If he had combined: hatred toward the world's treatment of lemons, genuine loyalty to his fellow lemons and a desire to overthrow the automotive hierarchy
he could have been a more emotionally compelling villain than a simple greed-driven mastermind.
A villain who commands an entire criminal organization directly often feels more dangerous.
Imagine if Zil personally:
hunted Mater,
ordered assassinations,
confronted McQueen,
fought Finn McMissile in the climax.
That would give him much more screen presence than Professor Z, who is defeated before the final reveal.
One criticism of Cars 2 is that the Miles Axlerod twist arrives very late, meaning the real villain has relatively little time as an active antagonist.
If Zil had been the main villain throughout the movie:
there wouldn't need to be a late twist,
the audience could spend more time learning about him,
and the climax could revolve around defeating a villain we've known and feared from the beginning.
That generally creates a stronger payoff.
So in my opinion If Zil had been fully written and developed, I think he could have been the strongest antagonist of the three probably any villain/antagonist in the cars universe
But what do you guys think?
What I mean is that this guy has the most poorly written introduction to an absolutely pointless character when j jonah jameson says he needs Peter Parker for the big party for an American hero his son the astronaut even it’s so weak even j Jonah Jameson couldn’t save it because it’s probably the most forced unnatural introductory line of my son the astronaut
Let me repeat this not only is this guy an astronaut but he’s also The son of Peter Parker’s boss J Jonah Jameson And he’s also marring Mary Jane Watson there some big qualities about him
Like here’s the question what does he even do what do you remember about him you can’t because you don’t know a god damn thing about him and you might think this guy would be interesting and probably play a big part seeing what an impact he makes on everybody and i guess he really doesn’t make an impact on anybody
Mary Jane and him share maybe two scenes together him and his father (JJJ) don’t even share any scenes together at all And we never even see him do anything space related like What is the Purpose of this guy? Just someone for Mary Jane to leave that’s pretty lame on its own
Mary Jane says that he scene her show five times which is strange and weird even came backstage to borrow cash which is odd for someone who came to their show five times
And yes I know he has a name in the film (John) but it was mentioned two times in the entire movie but honestly that is all he is in this film Son The Astronaut he’s the only plot device I think it’s legit bad in this movie because you could cut him out and you wouldn’t miss a thing
He’s barely in the movie, there’s no reason to make him J Jonah Jameson’s son, he has no personality as there no time to give him one and there’s no reason to have him marry MJ except that’s what every 90s rom com was doing so they think it’s perfect for a 2004 flick for some reason
I guess the idea is to build up all the rough and bad stuff happening with Peter Parker but the more I rewatch spider man 2 there’s already enough you can cut him out and still get the Same amount of pressure and guilt if anything it makes Mary Jane look douchey she’s apparently at a point where she’s ready to marry this guy but she’s still putting the moves on Peter Parker I mean what was this a month ago even when aunt may says that “miss you can you believe that in two years next month says he was taken” yeah that scene didn’t even happen yet so it’s safe to say she’s ready to marry this guy and yet She’s Still hitting on Peter Parker (her ex boyfriend) not even ex boyfriend just ex friend friend
In the deleted scenes and even the extended cut of the movie they did explain this a bit more at least adding to her character a bit but in the theatercal cut This Is Entirely Pointless
And I don’t know why but I thought maybe this guy is going to be Venom and wouldn’t that make a lot of sense? You could have him go to outer space find the symbiote and then have it get attached to him and he would have a possible reason to go after Peter Parker who stole MJ from him it’d be a lot better than getting topher grace from that 70s tv show (that should not be named) and hatedly putting a backstory together for At least this guy did have a backstory going for him even if it did lead to no character Hell Bruce CampBell was more developed than this guy
But what are your guys thoughts?
