I'm from South india, and I'm just stopping by in Surat and will leave by evening 5. I'm looking for Sarees to gift my mom. But I'm so poor in women's shopping and the number of shops here is making my head spin.

Can experienced shoppers please help me out, and recommend any shops or something like that?

Using a burner account for this, hence the low karma. Throughout my life, so far, I was a General Category Student. All the exams I wrote, I always choose General Category.

My parents didn't like that. As a matter of fact, I'm eligible for Obc-Ncl, I meet the criteria, and my father availed the reservation during his days, but I fought with my parents and wantedly choose General so far in my life, for 2 reasons

1. I've never faced any discrimination in my life. There were a couple of incidents, in a few pilgrimage sites, there's this concept of serving free food in the name of the god. But only to the people of their own Caste. I didn't know all of these rules, and went there hungry (solo travel) they figured out my caste from my surname & gotra. I already started eating, they came to me with an irritated face and told me to finish & leave quickly. I felt very bad...tears started coming instantly..at that moment I justified reservation for my cause.

But later I thought, they discriminate against every caste that is not their caste. Not because my caste is supposedly "backward"..so, then every caste should ask for reservation then?

2. I have no concrete proof that my ancestors had faced discrimination either. Even if they did so, what does it matter to me? The peasant class of medieval europe has faced horrible discrimination too, but I don't see any reservation there? My parents gave me a comfortable life, so..why should I avail the reservation?

With this ideology of mine, I've lost many top colleges in my ug, if I had obc-ncl, my parents still taunt me about that..but I told myself, I'm morally correct..

But life has been harsh lately..I badly want to get out of the position I'm in rn..mba suited my cause, started preparing for it 2 months ago and I'm slowly figuring out things..

But what broke my heart is vercel mba call predictor cutoffs for GEN for top colleges..for example I need 99.9X something for almost all top colleges. Even though I give my heart out to prepare for CAT (& I will) I know there are many variables during the exam day that can do +-1% despite your preparation level.

There is a lot of difference between 99% & 99.9x%. nobody moments before the exam can confidently say he'll get a 99.9x percentile, can they?

Otoh, the cutoffs for obc-ncl is around 98.5...that's a ridiculous amount of difference. Pushing from 90 to 95 is easy. From 95 to 98 is hard, 98 to 99 is very hard, and 99 to 99.9x is very very hard. After each passing day... I'm convincing myself with various kinds of mental gymnastics to avail the reservation...I know I'll get a 10 year headstart in my career doing mba from tier 1 colleges when compared with tier 2..

What should I do? Should I avail it, so I can shamelessly have an easier path to life.. choosing the "by all means" approach or should I stick to what I believe in? Another argument with which I'm convincing myself to take it is, mba life is not all jolly bolly either. I know I need to do a lot of dirty work, understand & play corporate politics to have an upward trajectory of my career. So I should eventually take the "by all means" approach at some point in my life, whether I like it or not..so why not now?

I honestly don't know... I'm confused & couldn't decide myself. Will love to hear from Internet Strangers so I can have a balanced perspective
