Roots or mold?

I'm propagating some rose of Sharon. I read someone here had success with rooting hormone then putting it in water, which I did. They have developed new legs but the bottom of the stems look like this. Are these roots or mold?

Black plastic

When using black plastic to kill grass, can I use black trash bags? I have a ton we never use and was planning to layer them and put mulch on top. Will that work? Southeast zon8a

Will this pad produce more pads?

I stuck some prickly pears in the ground in the very early spring and 3 of the 6 pads I planted are producing flowers. Will they still produce pads this season?

What should I plant here to fill in bare clay? Zone 8a Piedmont NC

Title basically says it all. Last year I had a chip drop here and it killed off all the grass and it hasn't grown back. The area is sloped enough that water runs off.

I've planted prickly pear, milkweed, a few obedient, cone flower, false sunflower and two American beauty berries. I hate the look of the bare clay.

What should I plant to fill in all the bare spots? Should I apply seed tac?

I got a large pack of purple echinacea seeds from a seed library. Has anyone used this company before? It looks like it has an Amazon style label on it with the seeds2go name. I googled them and the reviews are hit and miss. I don't want to plant them in the fall if it's an iffy company/quality. Any experience with them?

My Amish paste and Korean long (2 total) are having intense leaf curl at the top of the plant, the rest of the tomatoes are thriving. We've had an intense temperature swing for April, high 80s/90s. They've already been fertilized and are watered appropriately. Is the curl because of constant temperature swings?

My elderberry has taken off this year but I noticed midway through the bush some of the leaves are curling (not new growth) and are turning red and spotted. Any thoughts on what's going on?
