Someone owes me ~200k for last 4 years. Changed their number and not reachable anymore. I was given security cheques from a company for which they borrowed. But most likely that company has shut down. I have 3 undated cheques, one of which doesn’t have amount mentioned. Assuming that person to be still in UAE, can we use these cheques to open a case against them?

It’ll be 2 years since I was shown the door from my cushy job. It hurt. It still hurts. I was once the go to person for everyone around me. People came to me with their professional problems and more often than not for the personal problems as well. I helped everyone. But. Since the last 2 years, no one. Absolutely no one asked me how was I doing. Not the people I hired. Not the people I helped. Not the one I saved from getting fired. Not the one I helped move into a different role for higher salary. No one. I’ve somewhat made peace with that. People are selfish. Especially in this region. But one thing that I am unable to deal with is my own head. Mind wanders to darker places. The humiliation. The lack of compassion. The absence of empathy. And the friends that never were. These thoughts are pushing me in the wrong direction. I am a bitter person now. I no longer care for things I used to. How do you deal with it?

It was right before DNATA building but not anymore. Any one know if they’ll be back or if they’ve moved to someplace elsewhere.

We’ve been in Dubai for almost 8 years now. I run my own business (read struggle) the wife is a teacher at an Indian school. Her experience is close to 2 decades but the salaries that these Indian schools pay is horrible. Who pays 5k AED for a teacher in this economy? And the hours are insane.

I’ve asked my wife to leave and look for something else, but every school pays the same. British and American schools are not an option since they require “native accent” (not kidding).

We’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. A little bit of guidance is appreciated. Please, if you don’t have kind words, move on to the next post.

I’ve been selling covered calls for 3 months and so far the stock has been just bleeding. 24-25 range looks so far now.

13% down premarket. I am guessing another 5-7% when the markets open. They screwed the earnings.

Got in at 900 and out at 1600. Had a a few ins and outs. I am stuck in last one. Avg 1540.

Bought a property in 2021 from secondary market. The issue I am facing is that on Dubai Rest the property is under my name but on service charge portal and on dubailand records, previous owner name still shows up.

When I send an email to dubailand, the auto reply addresses me as the previous owner. How do I get this changed?

Of late, I am renovating my house, and with numerous suggestions, my first go-to option was Dragon Mart. It is nothing less than a horror story there now. I remember 10 years ago it was a welcoming place, but now it is an overwhelmingly toxic place. I struck a conversation with one of the "owners", who was a bit more cordial than the rest, and the story he told me makes so much sense as to why Dragon Mart has become so expensive. Sharing for anyone who is interested.

1. If you are not a Chinese national, you cannot rent a shop from Nakheel in DM1 (except for the 5% of space reserved for non-Chinese nationals). But 95% of the shops are run by South Asian nationals.
2. All the Chinese owners have rented out their shops to the ex-employees at a fixed rate of return, ranging between 2x-3x of the shop's original rent.
3. The ex-employees have further rented out "verticals" to someone else. So if you see a shop selling flooring and curtains, each of these verticals is "owned" by a different individual.
4. All of the above factors have inflated the rent to a point that prices no longer make sense. But the bigger problem is accountability and service. Since there are 3-4 owners in each shop handling a different vertical, who is going to take responsibility if one of the owners messes up? Most of them are not even on the same company's visa. The warranty/guaranty these guys give holds no value, since the person giving out these commitments is undocumented himself.

It got so confusing that I decided not to deal with this hassle anymore.
