My mom made these pants and texted me this. She's always struggled with school and teachers, so I found this very heartwarming. Maybe a little melancholy but I am glad she has found this.

Why is Bert Cooper tap dancing without shoes? Is he stupid? Or does he just not care about the form? And if the latter, am I stupid? Please be nice, I'm very sensitive.

It's weird. I feel better off it, but I still want it.

I have been off and on for a year now after 4 years of out of control usage. Only edibles. I was sober 4 months then back on for a month. Quit again for 4 months and used for 4 months. Started to feel emotionally numb and tired, and it felt connected to the weed.

I quit again two days ago, with the intention of maybe returning, but I really struggle with balancing it. But anyways, I feel better off it right now. More clear headed and grounded, but damn I still find myself wanting it. I don't get it.

Don't really feel like doing anything right now. Mostly just want to lay in bed under my favorite blanket.

No one read my debut and I really, really wanted to make it into a series. Looking for advice.

For context:

I wrote a superhero novel with characters that have been with me for decades.

I published it in 2025 as an online serial for free on Substack. One chapter every week.

I came in hoping for a readership of 15-20 and wound up with less. Much less.

As far as I know, the only person who has read my book in full is my mom. Most of my friends only read the first few chapters, and haven’t even offered much in terms of commentary or feedback. Meaning it was either not a good read, or maybe it was just too long for anyone to commit to. I don’t know! I did get feedback from friends before publishing on the first few chapters that was really helpful, and I’m still proud of how it came out, but it’s hard to know what went wrong.

I’ve always had plans of making this story into a 7-book series. I have so many stories to tell with these characters and I really was just getting started.

Now I feel really discouraged. What’s the point in writing a sequel that no one will read to a book no one read or engaged with? How do I even go about telling this story anymore?

I feel like such a failure for this, and I don’t even really know where to go next. Sure, I have another book I’m working on that I plan on pitching to publishers soon, but in terms of this series that I wanted to invest in so heavily, I don’t know anymore.

Obviously, the person to choose the path I go down is me, but I was hoping to hear some insight from my fellow self-publishers to hear what they think. I’ve considered finding ways to write one-shots about these characters that I could pitch to publishers–with self-publishing as the ultimate fallback, but I don’t know. It’s hard because I feel like I messed up, but I don’t know how I messed up or really what to do differently this time. I couldn’t sleep for hours last night because I was just dwelling on what a failure I am.

At the end of the day, I still have stories to tell–but I have no idea how to go about approaching this anymore.

How come you sometimes get half skill experience? Example in thread.

Merceded has 2 points left for mastering Bishop. Uses Fire on an enemy, kills them, and only gets 1 point.

Already spent renown on the Saint statues to get +2 skill experience per battle.

What gives? I have played for so long... so long...

...so long...

...and I have never figured it out.

(I have 1440 hours logged.)

Verdant Wind Hard+ Run #3

Really fun Verdant Wind run. As you can see, I like using atypical builds. I love this game and love exploring what these characters can do in different classes. I used NG+ to my advantage and paced out the bonuses.

Bylortho - Gremory

Wanted to do something different and made her a Mage. Managed to S+ Faith and S Reason. Nosferatu Dodge Tank with Quick Riposte is a really good build. Also I gave her the +2 Movement from DLC and +1 Movement from A+ Riding.

Claude - Bow Knight

Not too interesting, also running him as a Warmaster right now. But the range on him with Movement+1 is pretty good. I don't really care for the aesthetic of this for him though.

Hilda - Dark Flyer

Honestly she was a pretty good Mage. She learns Bolting at A which took NG+. Low power but very fast. Usually can one round most enemies.

Lorenz - Mortal Savant

I felt like though aesthetically I am not feeling it with Lances (did manage Lancefaire), it worked in that this trajectory of Swordmaster -> Savant remedied Lorenz's speed. Thysrus also helped a ton, and it's fun to actually use it on him and not Lysithea.

Raphael - Great Knight

I wanted to make Raphael some kind of knight for character reasons and landed on this. With Quick Riposte, he is a beast. Axe of  Ukonvasara was crazy powerful in his hand.

Ignatz - Mortal Savant

Fun build. I really like magic on him, he has a good spell list. Swords are also a change of pace for him but very fun. Lorenz actually edged him out in stats though.

Marianne - Holy Knight

She was only allowed to use Faith magic as a challenge. Nosferatue for most of the game, then Aura. She had a ton of spears but they were never really helpful. She was also slow and weighed down. But my headcanon is that her horse is Dorte and I really enjoyed this Faith only model.

Lysithea - Swordmaster

I just really like the image of Lysithea as a Swordmaster, even though Dancer would have been better. She has the right Crest for Thunderbrand, so it makes for an awesome combo. I think there's some fic about that too. God I miss writing 3H fic.

Leonie - Falcoknight

I usually do Bows with her so I wanted to change it up. She was fast, as you'd expect, and would Crit a lot. She also held the Chalice of Beginnings with Avoid Stance+.

Shamir - Assassin

Was going for a thematic and honestly eh. She needs the +1 range desperately. Low movement doesn't help either. She lagged  begin with no way to hit things sometimes. Love her though.

Cyril - Wyvern Lord w/ Bows

He was fine. I don't really like Cyril but wanted to use him. Only my second time, first time he was a Hero IIRC.

Alois - Warmaster

Aiming for 100% Supports so I married Alois. I kept him as a Grappler most of the time because he could cut through forest quickly, but Warmaster looks awesome on him. He was great. Not much of a dodger but good defense and strength that make him work.

Next up is CF Maddening+ and another CF Hard+, but I recruit all students and can only use my lowest leveled units each map, except for the finale.

First 50 seconds to a tribute I am working on.

Gets choppy towards the end. I am blanking on what to do with the rest of it tbh, I'd imagine footage of Bruce doing his bat thing sync'd with the music, but that's kind of a big lift. Ah well, we'll see where it goes.

When does Venture Bros. get less transphobic and racist? Still love Venture Bros. but wow was it the early 2000s.

Little bit about me - I worked on the Venture Bros T-shirt club for Season 6. There were 3 of us, so if you ordered a t-shirt for Season 6, there's a 33.33% (with a repeated sign of course) chance I folded and shipped your t-shirt. Anyways, I binged Venture Bros. while folding t-shirts and barely absorbed it.

So now I'm rewatching it, and really appreciating it, but man, the transphobia, the racism, and the ableism are pretty rough. I was wondering when it gets better on that front because I don't remember. Still love the show to pieces, I'm in early season 2.
