How many weeks did you take off to prepare and pack before you left for staging? I am trying to gauge when I should stop working my job (wildland firefighting support) before I depart for staging.

Howdy y'all, got the info for staging recently and I am trying to determine when I should stop my work and focus on packing, spending time with family and friends, and getting caught up on sleep before I depart for staging.

On one hand, I really want to be able to maximize my income this summer so I can have a juicy enough savings account for service so I can continue to funnel money into a Roth IRA, have an emergency fund, etc. I'm a recent college grad so I feel like taking advantage of summer wildfire work can be quite beneficial.

But also, spending time with family and friends is obviously important before I leave, and I also wanna make sure that I get plenty of rest and caught up on sleep before departure as I live on the opposite corner of the country from staging so I already have a long travel day ahead of me. Plus, with how bad fires have been this summer I haven't had a single day off from work since July 16th so maybe having extra time to sit in a bed might be good for my future self.

I do not feel like I have a ton to do or pack prior to departure but that's probably easier said now than in a few weeks. What do you all think? How much time off did you take before leaving for staging? Peace Corps suggests not engaging in any high-risk activities 2 weeks prior to departure fwiw. Thanks everyone.

Is there a due date for Learning Space tasks? (NOT Onboarding, those are completed). Having trouble with internet access due to wildfire work in remote areas, and I don't know if I should abandon my post to go to a cafe to knock out these online trainings.

Hi all, just wanted to ask a quick question and see if there is a due date for the tasks in the Learning Space portal? Basically, I am out working wildfires in Oregon right now and we are just absolutely swamped with work because of how bad the fires currently are. I have been working 12-14 hours/day with poor cell service and few opportunities to get the Learning Space tasks and trainings completed. I don't know if these tasks are urgent enough to where I should leave site to complete them, but we are so busy and urgently need people to put these fires out that I don't know if it is responsible for me to leave post to get these trainings completed.

Also, I leave in late September if that matters. And I was able to get the onboarding tasks finished up which seem to be the more important ones.

Thank you in advance to all who help, and if you are in the PNW right now, please remember to stay inside as best as you can to protect yourself from the poor air quality, and be extra careful when starting fires outdoors. Stay safe!

Is there a Peace Corps Community here in Corvallis?

Hi y'all, I will be a future Volunteer in the Peace Corps in September and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a Peace Corps Community in Corvallis? I have really enjoyed meeting and getting advice from previous volunteers who have served so I just wanted to reach out and ask if there are any groups here in town!

Good places to watch the USA vs Bosnia match on Wednesday?

Howdy y'all. Looking for somewhere to watch the USA vs Bosnia match that will be rocking and rolling on a Wednesday night. I tried to Peacock last week for the match against Turkey and we were the only ones there. Anyone got any other suggestions?

Just got through Medical Clearance!!! Paraguay in September! (Community Environmental Promoter).

I am so excited I got through Medical Clearance what a way to start a Wednesday! Everything people said about how arduous the process was is 100% correct lol but hey I got through it! I found that trying to be as punctual as possible really helped expedite the process.

I am scheduled to depart in late September and I have not gotten through Legal Clearance, is that normal? Thanks everyone!!!

Would anyone like a FREE tempurpedic bed frame? Warning: SUPER HEAVY and very difficult to move, and I do not know if the electronics work or not. You will need to bring a buddy (or multiple people) who are strong and able bodied, as well as a truck or some sort of vehicle which can fit this.

Howdy y'all, I will be moving out of Tucson this week likely on Thursday and I am trying to get rid of my tempurpedic bed frame. I would much rather someone take it off my hands so it finds a new home instead of taking it to the dump or somewhere myself. If anyone would like to have it for FREE please let me know. I have no idea if the electronics work or not, and the corners have some damage on it so it is not visually pristine.

Also, please do not discount how difficult this is to move. It truly is incredibly heavy, difficult to move, and I am on the second level of an apartment complex so you will have to move it down the stairs. Please make sure you bring multiple people and that you are safe while moving it. I do not want you to get hurt so I will be confirming with you in PMs to make sure you are able to move it safely haha.

If you want to see any photos of it please let me know, I can PM you them and tell you as much info as you need. Apologies that I have no idea if the electronics work or not, I have never been a big tech guy lol.

Please PM me soon! I move out of Tucson Thursday (or maybe Wednesday) this week so there isn't a ton of time left!

Recently had a family history of melanoma and now my dermatologist says I need to have a skin check every year. Will I not be able to serve in the PC anymore? (Paraguay)

Hi everyone, so this week I had a regularly scheduled dermatology appointment for some warts I have, which is the final thing I need to submit for medical clearance, and I also got a skin check done as my father recently had a melanoma scare on his skin. My dermatologist said that I need to have a skin check every year just for safety reasons.

I am terrified of submitting this information to the peace corps as I would be absolutely crushed if I don't get medically cleared for Paraguay, and if I can't serve in the Peace Corps all together because of this new family history of melanoma and for me needing a skin check every year.

Am I screwed? Or is this a pretty common medical need for volunteers to have, and I shouldn't have anxiety about submitting this for medical clearance?

Thinking about hiking out (solo) to the cabin where the Power's Cabin Shootout took place in the Galiuro Wilderness. I can't find much info about the hike online. Has anyone on here done it and is it safe?

Howdy y'all, my name is ian and I am a recent U of A grad who has turned into a massive AZ history and hiking nerd in the past year or so. While exploring google maps a while back, I found the Power Cabin out in the middle of the Galiuro Wilderness and the history and the hike out there has always fascinated me. The idea of being able to camp out in an old miners cabin where some interesting (and also tragic) history took place just amazes me and I think it would be an epic thing for me to do in Arizona this summer before I leave in late June.

Has anyone on this sub done this hike before? Would it be safe to do alone? I have fine outdoor experience and consider myself to have a decent head on my shoulders but I have never done anything like this before. I would probably just bring bear spray as my only source of defense if that's necessary.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions on some other super "off-the-beaten-path" things to do around Southern Arizona that might be safer to do alone, feel free to let me know! Or if you have any tips for this specific hike. Thanks in advance!

Edit: After reading incredibly helpful comments from fellow Arizona adventure-enthusiasts, it is clear to me that doing this hike (especially solo during the summer) is simply just not a good idea. I will be sure to give it a try during the winter months someday in my life! Thanks everyone for the feedback and I have enjoyed reading your stories and advice! I will instead spend my free time hiking in higher altitudes that are less remote, and close to Tucson. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I will be moving to Paraguay in September of this year as I will be serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer for over two years! I was wondering if anyone knew of a Seahawks community in Paraguay? Would be happy to connect with fellow Hawks fans down there (if there are any). Go Hawks and thanks in advance!
