[IRTR] Looking for IT horror stories (and the people who survived them)

  • IT Horror Stories with Jack Smith

  • 15 episodes / 1 year running

  • [Technology] IT, datacenters, devops, technical debt
  • 30 min

I'm host of IT Horror Stories with Jack Smith, a podcast where we discuss the stories behind the systems.

We're looking for guests who have lived through interesting technology incidents, infrastructure failures, migration projects, security events, operational disasters, strange legacy systems, or those moments where everybody suddenly discovers what a "single point of failure" really means.

A few examples of topics we've covered:

  • A warehouse operation that depended on a laptop
  • Disaster recovery tests that created more confusion than disasters
  • Why some Boeing 747s continued using floppy disks
  • SAP migrations and enterprise transformations
  • Datacenter incidents and infrastructure failures
  • Printers (because of course printers)

Stories must be at least 18 months old and will be anonymized where necessary. We're not interested in naming and shaming companies or individuals. The goal is to share lessons learned and preserve some of the history behind the systems we all depend on.

If you've got a story that still gets brought up years later, I'd love to hear from you.

Feel free to reply here or send me a DM.
