I feel like Knives out is absolutely what Doctor Who could be in a modern era.

As a character Benoit Blanc has pretty much no stakes within the plots that he’s finds himself in. He doesn’t know the main characters, he doesn’t have any involvement with the people who died.

But he cares so much because he’s a massive ego maniac, he loves that feeling of solving a mystery, getting that moment of victory. Combined with Blanc playing his cards close to his chest while playing an act to lul them into a false sense of security.

On top of that while the tone does shift between the three, not only does it keep its core but Blanc is such a strong character he can shift it to whatever it needs to be.

I’m not advocating for Doctor Who to be a murder mystery every episode but I do think more simple stories set in all time and space that really allow the Doctor as a character to shine and elevate new ones every story would be really beneficial to the show.

Are we meant to root for Andy?

I’m rewatching season 8 and in the conflict between Nelly and Andy im genuinely confused on if I’m meant to be rooting for Andy. I feel like my opinions might be swayed by his actions towards Erin later on in the show but I feel like all of Andy’s problems here are caused by his own actions.

Also as a Doctor Who fan, Catherine Tate is probably one of the funniest actresses on the show so that also probably sways my opinions.

Regeneration energy peaked under Chibnell.

This is almost completely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things but the visual regeneration effect peaked under Jodie. The mixing of yellow and orange with subtle lightning effects and a rainbow hew to it all. It lasted into The Giggle but 15 went back to that boring standard yellow effect.
