Is the Corsair Vanguard 96 worth it for $150?

As the title says. I want a new keyboard, one that’s good for typing and gaming. I see the Vanguard 96 available for $150 with the tactile switches (which I prefer to linear).

I know people constantly lament how Corsair is overpriced, but the alternatives I have been seeing over the past few days don’t seem much better. Often it’s some brand that once I look them up I see countless Reddit posts and reviews of quality control issues, enough to be far more significant than other brands. Yes, nuphy and Keychron have some awesome models, but it’s only a bit cheaper and they apparently are very finicky. Plus they lack certain features; not to mention that if I add on a palm rest, which I need, the price is about the same as the vaanguard96.

Plus, while I don’t like the look too much, I could swap out the keycaps and at least somewhat remedy that.

The only other alternatives I’m given are strange obscure brands in the range of $180-$500, or building it myself, which would be very expensive, not to mention it’s something I have no experience with.

I know “gamer brand bad,” but with all that in mind, do you think this would be a terrible idea for the time being?

Can I swap out the keycaps on a Vanguard 96?

Considering the Vanguard 96, but I’m sick of an all-black setup, it’s a bit gloomy on my black desk. If I were to get this keyboard, can I order just any normal profile keycaps and swap them out? Would it mess with the rgb showing through?

Recommendations for a new keyboard?

Hello! I've had a SteelSeries Apex 7 for several years now, and I have been wanting to change to a new keyboard. I would like some recommendations.

  • I use a desktop PC and would primarily use it for gaming and typing. I play a wide variety of games, including FPS, management, turn-based strategy, and basically anything else. Either wired or wireless is fine with me.
  • I greatly prefer a 100% keyboard. I could do 96%, but I like my numberpad. I am open to unusual shapes though, such as a split keyboard. Normal-profile, no low-profile.
  • Mechanical switches. I greatly prefer clicky switches. In the absence of clicky, though, I can settle for tactile, so long as it gives a satisfying clack/thock sound for typing.
  • I would like a keyboard that is white/light gray, or brightly colored in some way. This is not necessary though.
  • RGB would be a very nice plus. Not necessary, but would be nice.
  • A keyboard with, or with the option of later on adding a palm rest would be very nice.
  • My budget is flexible. I suppose I would have an upper limit somewhere around $150

So about mouse sensitivity...

I have been playing with 3200 dpi at 10% in game sensitivity. I'm now learning this is apparently really high?

I lowered my mouse to 1200, but I'm wondering if that's enough. I'm also not entirely sure what to put the in game sensitivity at.

May I ask what dpi and sensitivity you all use, as well as what characters you mainly play?

Looking for recommendations

Hello! I've had a SteelSeries Apex 7 for several years now, and I have been wanting to change to a new keyboard. I've been browsing the Keychron keyboards, but I'm having trouble making sense of the differences of the various models/series. I would like some recommendations.

  • I greatly prefer a 100% keyboard. I could do 96%, but I like my numberpad. I am open to unusual shapes though, such as a split keyboard (though I've been told Alice-shape keyboards are a bit tricky for gaming).
I suppose I could also swap out the keycaps at a later date, though that leaves the frame the same.
  • RGB would be a very nice plus. Not necessary, but would be nice.
  • My budget is flexible.
