My brother currently works in the Purchase Department and earns around ₹20,000 per month. His company may give him a ₹2,000 increment from next month, but it's not confirmed yet.
He currently lives at home, so he doesn't have many major expenses. His only regular expense is around ₹1,500 for transportation. Because of this, he can save most of his salary.
Now he has received a new job offer in the Red Hills area of Chennai for ₹30,000 in-hand per month.
The problem is that if he accepts it, he will have to move out and pay for:
PG/room rent
Food
Transportation
Other daily expenses
Travel back home
He is also a little homesick and doesn't easily adjust to all types of food. He has never really lived alone for a long period, so we're not sure how well he will adjust.
At the same time, he really wants to take the new job because it's a ₹10k increase and he feels it could be a good opportunity for his career.
If you were in his situation, what would you do?
Would you:
Stay at the current ₹20k job, live at home, save more money, and wait for a better opportunity?
Take the ₹30k job, move to Red Hills, and accept the extra living expenses for better salary and experience?
Take the ₹30k job only if the new company offers better career growth?
Also, if anyone lives around Red Hills, how much should he realistically expect to spend on PG/room + food + transport every month?
Any advice from people who have faced a similar situation would be really helpful.

Hey everyone, I had a couple of questions about my SBI Cashback Credit Card and Flipkart. I’m planning to buy a mobile that costs around ₹26,000 on Flipkart, and I’m not sure if I’ll get the 5% cashback. When I check out, it redirects to an SBI payment page, and the merchant name is listed as Flipkart Internet Pvt. Ltd. via PowerBuy by Wibmo. Has anyone used this setup and still received the cashback? I just want to be sure before I buy.
Also, if I do get the cashback, can I still use a gift card for the payment or will that mess things up? And one more thing—I need to pay my utility bill on Amazon, and I was thinking of buying an Amazon gift card to do it. Does anyone know if that works, or is there a better way to pay utility bills using the card? Any advice would be really appreciated!
