Me and my Buddy drove across countries to bring a Dog home. [OC]
Marcus, our 2-year-old Cane Corso, a majestic Italian Mastiff is so much more than a dog. He is family.
A true gentle giant, he melts with affection around people, yet carries a natural, watchful protectiveness that makes you feel instantly safe. Even with the strict breed restrictions across the Middle East, we refused to accept that Marcus couldn’t be with us.
What began as a crazy idea between friends became a journey of pure love and unbreakable determination.
After six months of relentless planning, endless paperwork, and mountains of permits, we turned the impossible into reality.
Marcus started his journey in the UK, where he completed his foundation training to become a Psychiatric Service Dog, trained to support those battling anxiety, PTSD, epilepsy, and depression. From there, he flew to Jordan for an intensive advanced program with the Jordanian K9 Academy. He passed with flying colors and earned his official title, he finally became eligible.
Then the real adventure began.
My buddy and I set off on a crazy road trip from the UAE through Saudi Arabia to Jordan to bring him home.
We drove for days without cruise control, sleeping in freezing desert nights at 0°C, pushing through exhaustion and uncertainty while low on funds but that didn’t stop our mission.
Along the way in Jordan from the Jordan Valleys, Marcus became a local celebrity. People recognized him everywhere. Strangers ran up for photos, hearts wide open. At one unforgettable moment, even a secretary to a Jordanian princess came to meet him and wished us success on our journey. But the hardest test was still ahead.
On the way back, we were rejected at the Saudi border. Left stranded in no man’s land with almost no water and limited dog food, many told us to abandon Marcus and go home alone.
We refused.
We turned around, went back to Jordan, fixed every single issue, and tried again. This time, the borders opened.
The final leg was brutal, another five days, two more freezing desert nights, and a total journey exceeding 6,200 km. We started in a humble 2003 Toyota Camry… and somehow made it home with our boy.
When we finally crossed back home with Marcus, it didn’t feel real. We were physically and emotionally drained battling PTSD episodes from everything we’d endured. But we had done it.
Today, Marcus proudly walks beside us as a fully certified service dog, loving, protecting and healing his family every single day.
This is a story of relentless love, unshakable patience, and the beautiful truth that no obstacle is too great when family is on the line.
Marcus isn’t just a dog.
He is family ❤️
