Blue Fin Setup (NorCal)

Hi Anglers,

I’m looking to buy my first bluefin tuna setup for Northern California. Most of the fish in this area range from 50–150 pounds, with the occasional 200+ pounder.

I’ll primarily be trolling, and my boat doesn’t have rail rods. Since I’ll probably only go out 2-5 times per year, I’m looking for a capable setup without going overboard on cost.

Here’s what I’m considering:

Rod:

  • Okuma Makaira Abalone Series Offshore Trolling Rod (MK-TR-601XH), 6', rated for 40–100 lb.

Reel:

  • Shimano SpeedMaster II 16 (SPM16II) or SpeedMaster II 20 (SPM20II).
    • I also looked at the Talica, but I can’t justify spending the extra $300+ for how often I’ll use it.

Would you recommend the size 16 or 20 SpeedMaster for this setup? Is a 6-foot rod a good length, especially since I don’t have rail rods?

Thanks!

OEM Tonneau Cover 4th Gen Issues

Purchased in November from Toyota - truck is kept in garage. Hardly even open and the rubber seals are slipping out of place. Does anyone know how to fix this? Tried applying pressure and sliding but it doesn’t budge.

Thanks!

HELP! Letting go of Sneaker Collection

I've been collecting sneakers for a long time and currently have around 25 pairs. About half are in my regular rotation, while the other half are deadstock, kept double-boxed in a climate-controlled room.

Lately, I've started selling off pairs that I know I'll realistically never wear. Most of my deadstock pairs fall into that category. Part of me wants to declutter because it feels overwhelming having so many shoes just sitting there.

At the same time, if I'm being honest, selling them all isn't going to make me any happier or make a meaningful difference financially (have had regret selling my collection once during college). My long-term vision has always been to display them as art in my future office, and that's what's making this decision so difficult.

So I'm curious...

What would you do - keep or let go?

I currently have and got them ALL for retail:

  • Air Jordan 1 Travis Scott "Mocha" - DS
  • Air Jordan 1 Bred 2017 - DS

Help Pairing Surf Rod!

Hello Redditors,

I was recently gifted a Shimano Spheros SW C3000HG and I’m looking to get into surf fishing here in California. I’m trying to find a good rod to pair with it and would appreciate any recommendations.

I was thinking something in the 8’6”–9’6” range since I’ll primarily be targeting halibut and striped bass. In my area, these fish rarely exceed 20 pounds, so I’m looking for a setup that’s balanced and practical rather than overkill.

Any suggestions on rod length power, or specific models that pair well with this reel?

Thanks!
