It’s August and I’m already worried for autumn/winter

For some reason this year, I feel I have been counting down the days to the end of summer more than ever and the fact it is now August is starting to stress me out.

I just don’t want summer to end because I know from the autumn I start to feel depressed. I’m already feeling down about feeling down!

Ticking noise on my picanto 2 2021 automatic

Hi,

I haven’t posted here before but thought I would come on regarding a ticking noise I have noticed on my picanto when the engine is on (find attached the audio recording I sent to my brother).

Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I just feel as if I’ve never noticed it before.

I’ve checked the engine and oil and everything looks fine :/

Best viewing spots northern England for August 12th Solar Eclipse?

Hi,

I’m based in Sunderland and planning to drive somewhere for the 12 August 2026 solar eclipse- my first solar eclipse I have followed! It will reach around 92% totality where I am.

What’s the best place to drive to for the maximum totality l? I’m happy to drive for a couple of hours and I’m looking for the best viewing location within that sort of distance.

Has anyone else planned this already or got any recommendations?

Thanks!

Struggling with new family dynamics

I’m trying to work out what I’m feeling because I genuinely can’t put a name to it.

My mother and my future sister-in-law are really close. Me and my future sister-in-law are around the same age, and I actually really like her. We get on well, so this isn’t about not liking her, jealousy, or thinking there’s anything wrong with their relationship.

It’s just a completely new dynamic for me, and my brain seems to keep getting stuck on it. I know logically there’s no issue, but I can’t work out why it feels so different or why I keep thinking about it.

They’re currently on a spa break together. I couldn’t join because of my job however they’d actually booked this prior to seeing what I’m working so I am a bit upset but is what it is.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Not because anything is wrong, but just because your brain is struggling to process a new situation or family dynamic? I’m wondering if it’s an autistic thing or if anyone else has felt the same.

Near miss today

I had quite a bad near miss today and I’m feeling quite anxious about driving now.

I needed to move into the middle lane in order to stay on the motorway for my intended exit. There was a lorry in that lane which was fully visible from top to bottom in my rear-view mirror, with a big gap between us. I checked my side mirror, where there also appeared to be plenty of space, checked my blind spot, signalled, and began moving over.

As I was changing lanes, the lorry suddenly accelerated right up behind me and started laying on the horn continuously. It happened so quickly that it genuinely felt like they’d sped up as I was already committed to the lane change.
It scared the absolute life out of me.

I had to come off of the motorway and sit in the car for a bit in some random street as I was a bit shaken up.

Anyone got any advice/had a similar experience?

My auntie’s dog is getting put down on monday

My auntie’s dog is being put to sleep on Monday, and I genuinely don’t know how I’m going to cope.

He’s almost 14 years old and his body is sadly giving up. He has severe arthritis, he’s been vomiting (sometimes with blood), and he’s started having accidents in the house. We all know it’s the kindest decision, but that doesn’t make it hurt any less.

He isn’t technically my dog, but he’s been such a huge part of my life. I walked him all the time, and no matter what kind of day I was having, seeing him would always make me smile.

The reason this is so difficult is because he genuinely saved my life. A few years ago, I was at my absolute lowest and I was about to end my life. In that moment, he was brought to me. I don’t know if anyone will understand it, but something about him coming over to me completely changed everything. Instead of focusing on ending my life, I focused on him. He gave me a reason to get outside, to keep moving, and to keep going when I didn’t think I could.

People sometimes say, “At least he wasn’t your dog,” but grief doesn’t work like that. The bond you have with an animal isn’t defined by who owns them. He became family to me, and I love him with my whole heart.

I know putting him to sleep is the kindest
thing we can do because he’s suffering, but I’m absolutely dreading Monday. I already miss him, and he’s not even gone yet.

Has anyone else experienced losing a pet that wasn’t technically yours but meant the world to you? How did you cope? Right now I just feel completely heartbroken.

Has anyone else lost the ability to cry?

I’ve been on Prozac nearly 8 years now and I have no intention of coming off of it.

The first few months of this year were pretty hard but have gotten better now. However through that (and still now on occasion) I feel I just haven’t been able to have a good cry.

I know it may sound contradictory with Prozac aiming to stop feelings of sadness etc, but has anyone just wanted a good cry but can’t? I’ve been able to before but now I can’t. It’s so damn frustrating. I’m autistic and sometimes having a good cry really helps me!

I got the depo injection 2 weeks ago for the first time in over a year and over the past few days my depression has gotten really bad.

When I have had it before I haven’t had any mental health impacts but this time round it seems really bad. I feel so down and borderline suicidal.

Has anyone else had it to this extent?
