How did you get into Trek?

I was born in the mid 70's so it had been off the air for a while but it was played heavily in syndication. My father was a massive fan so he introduced me to it. My earliest memory of the show is that I really liked that guy with the pointy ears and the doctor sure was grumpy.

I'm curious how others discovered the show, especially those born during a lull in the production.

And I'm compelled to share that I took care of my dad for the last year of his life and the one show he would watch over and over was TOS. It brought him great comfort.

Edit to add: I love how evenly it's split between moms and dads introducing us to the show. Speaks to the legacy of the show and how it really is for everyone. My mother did not like it but she did understand I loved it and supported my interest. She bought me all the action figures and the bridge set when TMP was released.

Wrath of Khan

I've probably watched this movie at least 50 times and the ending still gets me. From "ship out of danger* on I'm a wreck. Please tell me I'm not alone in this. It's such a fantastic movie.

The Sandbaggers(1978-1980)

BBC show I discovered in the early 2000s because of a comic book series. Such a great cold war show. I fear this one may really be forgotten but it's worth a watch if you like espionage. Available on YouTube.

"The Sandbaggers was a gritty, realistic British spy thriller series that aired on ITV from 1978 to 1980, focusing on the covert operations of an elite team within the British Secret Service, led by the harried spymaster Neil Burnside (Roy Marsden). Created by Ian Mackintosh, the show was known for its cynical, dialogue-heavy approach to Cold War espionage, complex plots, and a stark contrast to the glamour of James Bond, emphasizing the moral ambiguity and high emotional toll on its characters. Besides being a Giants fan, what else do you fun?

I like to slam my hand in my car door repeatedly. I also enjoy asking strangers to kick me in the balls and rubbing hot sauce on the inside of my eyelids.

I think my favorite thing is being a Sacramento Kings fan since they moved to town 40 years ago. That sure keeps things in perspective when my baseball team sucks.
