Scared of accepting betas or translations

So. I have just finished a purely self-indulgent fic that I never would have thought so many readers would enjoy.

Long story short, I’ve been approached about both beta reading and translations.

The thing is, five years ago I would have said yes with no thought of it at all, I'm all in favor of community projects. But nowadays... I'm not so sure and part of it is "the tech that must not be named."

Look, I'm not proud of the spelling mistakes I make because English isn’t my first language but... I don't know, at least right now I'm not being accused of using this tech for writing.

I can't help thinking my imperfect English is protecting me from all this witch-hunt around this new tech.

Also: what if the people offering to translate or beta my fic do use this tech? They might say they aren't but... How can one be sure?

What would YOU do?

EDIT: After reading your opinions, I’ve decided not to have a beta reader or a translator. As many of you have pointed out, my writing could already be fed into any LLM, but I don’t feel comfortable facilitating that myself. Thank you for the kindness and patience in your replies. <3

LF recs "magic with a cost"

So I’ve been reading this fic that plays with the concept of magic having a real cost... And now I’m wondering: does anyone have fic recs with magic systems where magic genuinely costs something?

I don’t mean “he was tired” or “his core was damaged for a bit.” I mean actual narrative cost. The kind where every use of magic makes you nervous because the price might matter later.

Yes, I know this is specific!

For reference, the fic that made me crave this is a Snarry one, "Harry Potter and the War That Never Was". I’ve also seen this kind of thing in books like "One Dark Window" or "The Witcher" or in the manga "Fullmetal Alchemist", but I’m specifically looking for m/m fics!

Bonus points if there’s some good smut involved. I mostly read Snarry and Drarry, though I occasionally wander into other ships if the story is good enough ♥️

The Most Splendid Thing is one of the best fanfics I've ever read

A few days ago I was scrolling through Tumblr when I came across a gorgeous Drarry fanart of Harry and Draco as very muscular adults 🫠. The chemistry was so intense that my immediate thought was: wait, is this from a fic?

Turns out it was! The artist, lulusantusa (https://www.tumblr.com/lulusasantusa)), created it inspired by "The Most Splendid Thing" by lqtraintracks (lumosed_quill).

I'm so glad I decided to give this fic a chance because I had an absolutely wonderful time reading it. It's warm, domestic, genuinely funny, and the banter between Harry and Draco is top-tier 🤩. Their dynamic is realistic, and the romantic tension is fantastic. The smut is excellent as well... perfectly placed and very satisfying.

Plus, they're Quidditch rivals, which makes everything even better.

If you're looking for a funny, feel-good adult Drarry with amazing chemistry, I'd definitely recommend this one.
