Where do South African teachers apply to ?

I am a Mathematics and Science teacher (Male, 34 years old) based in South Africa with 10 years teaching experience at government schools. I also have 2 years teaching experience as a TEFL tutor. The pay I get only allows me to make ends meet. The work conditions are also enabling me to look elsewhere for enrolment.

I am looking to migrate abroad. Somewhere that pays well and where I can develop professionally.

For context, my qualifications include :

  1. BSc Physics and Electronics

  2. Post Graduate Certificate in Education - Physics and Mathematics

  3. 320 Hour TEFL diploma

If you have any advice or information you can share. Please hit me up.

Why do I get the awkward stares ?

I am relative big human being standing at 6ft1 with a large frame. I always catch people staring at me. I am ok with it generally. What sets me off is when some people start acting weirdly, some even look terrified 🫣 is this a normal experience for tall people. I would also like to add that people tend to avoid me. It becomes quite an uncomfortable experience moving around in public spaces.

Is this the status quo for SA schools ?

Govt with it's backlog of building new school (ongoing 25+ years) to mitigate overcrowding. Oversized classes is also becoming a major hurdle at the foundation phase of primary schooling. They need to curate the curriculum in a way that sparks curiosity instead of active recalling all the time. NSNP feeding program needs an overhaul to give learners better nutrition and access to clean water. Equip all schools with interactive ICT boards, remove chalkboards as it's time consuming and a waste of time drawing a laborious task on the board like the structure of an atom for example. Holistic development is the cornerstone to good education. Co-curricular activity ( sports and creative arts) is imperative for every child to explore. Refinement of the Bela ACT. Giving learners too much rights and taking away authority from the teachers is a recipe for disaster if one takes cognisance of the background that some of these kids come from. The language policy needs to be refined. Make English the only LOLT and all native languages a second additional (incl Afrikaans). Change the recruitment process of teachers ESp at management, more policing needed there as there are many undeserving (many of whom are not qualified or competent enough) candidates at top management levels. Scrap excessive admin teachers are burnt out, employ teaching assistants for every teacher to execute admin related duties. SA SAMS should be cloud readily accessible across the internet for teachers to use and not server based at schools. School fees should be made compulsory, exception to those earning sassa, school fees should be made compulsory(does not have to be much). We are bankrupt as a country, every cent can make a difference. A robust governance in schools is necessary, school governance should be paid and the applicable candidates should have merits (varsity accredited for that role ). 30 % pass should be scrapped. maths lit should be scrapped. promotion and progression system should be overhauled, grade 9 exit point for vocational training for trade certificate
