I found this rare "hard Times Token" metal detecting yesterday

This item is an extremely rare 1836 Huckel, Burrows & Jennings St. Louis Merchant Token (cataloged as Low-102 and HT-187 in the Hard Times token series), issued by a grocery and provisions dealer on Main Street in St. Louis, Missouri. [1, 2, 3]

  • Issuer & Origin: St. Louis, Missouri; issued by the firm Huckel, Burrows & Jennings, who operated as grocers, wine merchants, and ship chandlers. [1, 2]
  • Historical Context: Struck during the mid-1830s economic period known as the "Hard Times," private merchant tokens served as emergency small-change currency due to a scarcity of official US coinage. [1, 2]
  • Rarity & Value: This specific piece is recognized as the sole St. Louis issuer in the Hard Times token series and is considered a major numismatic rarity with only a handful of known surviving examples, frequently commanding tens of thousands of dollars at major rare coin auctions.

Help identify gold amulet

Auction pick up. It was listed as 10K but is marked 585. I don’t recognize the makers marks. If you recognize them, help would be appreciated.

I took my Three-Year-Old Grandson to the Baltimore Coin Show

I took my three-year-old grandson to the Baltimore coin show yesterday. Kid makes out like a bandit. All given to him as gifts and freebies. Not shown: the multiple Rolo's he now knows he likes and a tootsie pop.

Large copper coins found in three years in Northern Virginia

I tended to overclean at first. And sometimes identifying and dating the coins can be challenging. For example, the Virginia Half Penny is very thin and very deteriorated. I had to identify a few letters and a couple of arcs in the crest on the reverse and search for a match.

One permission gave me five of the Large Cents (including the 1807) and one of the Half Cents (the 1804) in the last month.

EDIT: Added the Half Cents in comments

50'ish years ago, I did a thing.

Now the planes are gone or in museums, the squadron is retired, the ship IS a museum, and several of my closest friends have passed on.

Below melt. However 1881 is relatively rare and it’s worth way more even in this condition. Local auction house that does weekly sales.
