Affordable hotel recommendations near Place Bell for a first-time visit to Quebec

Hi everyone! I’m going to a concert at Place Bell next month and it’s my first time in Quebec. I’ll be travelling alone and I’m looking for an affordable, simple hotel near Place Bell.

I don’t need breakfast, a pool, or anything fancy, just a clean, safe place to sleep. Any recommendations for budget-friendly hotels that are convenient for Place Bell?

Many thanks!

Can I pass CSC Volume 2 using only SeeWhy and Michael Hlinka’s notes?

Hi there,
Just that. Is SeeWhy, Michael Hlinka’s notes and CSC Check enough to pass, or are there certain topics I should definitely read from the textbook?
Many thanks

CSC/CPH vs CIRE – Struggling with the math, should I switch to CIRE?

Hi everyone,

I enrolled in the CSC and CPH in 2025 and I’ve been having a hard time with the amount of content and especially the calculations. It has been pretty stressful, so I’m considering switching to the CIRE instead.

For those who have taken CIRE, should I study all of the CSC and CPH material, or is the preparation different? I also feel anxious not knowing the exact passing mark for CIRE, while with the CSC I know I need 60%.

I’ve heard that CIRE has fewer calculations, which is a big reason I’m considering it, but I’ve also seen people say the practice exams don’t fully reflect the difficulty of the real exam. Unfortunately I can’t afford the $700 SeeWhy course.

Has anyone made the switch from CSC/CPH to CIRE? Did you find it easier if calculations are your weak point?

Thanks for any advice.

Michael Hlinka’s video modules

Hi there! I’m currently studying for the CSC using Michael Hlinka’s audio lessons, and he frequently says “I”ll explain this in greater detail in the video lessons”.
The problem is, I can’t find these video modules anywhere. I’ve looked through the course, searched Google, and haven’t had any luck.

Were these videos removed, or are they available somewhere else? If anyone knows where to find them (or if they’re no longer available), I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Cum/ex dividend mishap

Hi there,

I think SeeWhy Learning and the CSI textbook might be saying different things about the cum-dividend and ex-dividend dates, or am I misunderstanding something?

SeeWhy says trades take 2 business days to settle, but the CSI book says 1 business day. Did the settlement cycle change and SeeWhy hasn’t been updated, or am I interpreting this incorrectly?
For example, if the record date is Thursday, June 15, the CSI book says that buying the stock on Wednesday, June 14 settles on June 15, so it’s cum-dividend. However, SeeWhy says that buying on June 14 would be ex-dividend.
Can someone explain which is correct and why?
Many many thanks!! 🙏

Chapter 7 formulas :/

Hi there, truly hope anyone can help me with this though I know it's a long post.

I’m not sure if this is too much to ask or if anyone already has this or might find it useful, but I’m super confused by all the formulas in Chapter 7 and the formulas cheat sheet. I also bought the Financial Investment Calculations Toolkit and SeeWhy, and I feel like the formulas and contents are different. I’m dying with all of this, so I wanted to confirm the formulas I need to learn and the ones I can use the calculator for and make sure I am not missing anything.

In order of appearance in Chapter 7:

1.present value:

can use calculator

2. discount rate

is there a formula I need to memorize?? I think the book explains how to obtain it but I think we are always given that info

3.fair price of a bond

is this the same as present value of a bond?? The toolkit only shows this

How to Calculate the Present Value of a Bond

What would you expect to pay for a $1,000 face value bond with the following features: 15 years to maturity, with a coupon rate of 11%, and interest paid semi-annually, when the yield to maturity on similar bonds is 8.75%?

Financial calculator steps

FV = 1000

N = 30

PMT = 55

I/Y = 4.375

PV = -1185.98

Therefore, the bond will sell for $1,185.98 per $1,000.

BUT

The book has like 3 pages (5-9) explaining this and it's just so confusing.

4. Yield on a T-Bill

no calculator, need formula

5. CY on a bond

can use calculator

6. CY on a bond

can use calculator

*For the YTM, we know the results will be different if you do the calculations or use the calculator instead. Am I safe with calculator only? Like they won't give me both answers but only 1 will be correct?

7. accrued interest

no calculator, need formula

  1. Did not see annuity on the textbook but can use the calculator for this rather than the formula

9. Accrued interest

no calculator, need formula

***So there are only 9 problems I need to learn to solve for Chapter 7, right?***

Thanksss sooo muchhh

Formulas

Hi there!
I’m on chapter 7 of the CSC and I am sooo confused with the formulas.

First of all, I am not sure what I need to memorize if the formulas or how to calculate them in a financial calculator. Will we be provided with one on the virtual exam or do I need to purchase one?

Also, this is all so new to me and I am struggling so much, even with See Why. I had no idea I was this dumb. I know that if you work in finance you prob make decent money and I don’t have much to offer since I’m not licensed yet but I believe if someone would teach me 1:1 it’d be easier for me to understand and then just practice how it’ll be asked on the exam since I get so overwhelmed reading a simple sentence I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to take the test.

If someone’s willing to teach me pls let me know and I can pay you, I can’t afford to fail.

Many thanks

Any cute, Instagrammable cafés or lunch spots in Niagara Falls?

Hi! I’m spending the day in Niagara Falls this Saturday and have a show at Fallsview Casino at 8 PM. I’ll also be doing some shopping at the outlets earlier in the day.

I’m looking for a cute, Instagrammable café or a nice spot for a late lunch, somewhere with a pretty atmosphere, good food/drinks, and a bit of a girly vibe if that makes sense.

I was considering Bar Barista at Fallsview since I’ll already be there for the show, but I can’t find much about it online. Has anyone been? Is it worth it, or are there better places around Niagara Falls that you’d recommend?

Thanks!

Recently moved to Oakville, looking for solo trip ideas before a Niagara show

Hi everyone,

I'm seeing a show at Fallsview Casino in Niagara on Saturday next week and the show starts at 8 PM. I recently moved to Oakville and don't have a car, so I was thinking of renting one for the day and making a little adventure out of it before heading to Niagara.

So far, I've only explored downtown Oakville. I came across South Shell Park in another thread and thought it looked interesting.

I'm looking for recommendations for free (or inexpensive) things to do either in Oakville or along the way to Niagara. I'm open to pretty much anything. It'll just be me, so solo-friendly suggestions are appreciated. I've already been to Niagara Falls.

Thanks!

CIRE/CSC

Hi everyone,

I enrolled in the CSC and CPH courses in 2025, but I’m hearing that the CIRE is easier. I’m having a really hard time preparing for the CSC using the textbook.

Should I just switch and take the CIRE instead? Also, if I enroll in the CIRE, am I able to keep my CSC/CSI enrollment as a backup, or does it get cancelled/deleted once I switch?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Audible/Podcast for learning?

Hi everyone, I’m studying for the CSC but I’m really struggling with the textbook. I’m from Latin America and I’m learning everything from scratch, so it feels overwhelming.

Does anyone know good beginner-friendly finance podcasts, audiobooks, or Audible courses that explain the basics? Something I can listen to while commuting or working out would really help.

Right now I feel like I’m reading but not really understanding. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Custom duties Canada

Hi there, all new in Alibaba and want to print 50 decals from a seller. One of them said shipping was $35 and another $10 but that it did not include Custom duties. Is this normal for Canada? What should I expect? I also want to purchase 50 glass cups. Many thanks

Hi! I really want the Lavender Iced Coffee Tumbler but I’m not sure if I should buy it now or wait.

Since it’s part of the spring collection, does anyone know if:

  • it might go on sale or be included in a bundle later?
  • or if it will just sell out and not come back?

I’m scared of paying full price and then seeing it included for free or discounted later 😭

Also wondering the same about the Bubble Gum one, do those usually go on sale or are they limited and sell out fast?

Would you buy now or wait? Pleaseee and many many thanks!!
