How does Blasphemous compare to Hollow Knight and other Metroidvania’s?

Tbh, I played Hollow Knight for a bit, but it never clicked with me. The vibe/look of Blasphemous is super appealing to me tho, but I’m worried that I’ll spend the $$$ and regret it. How similar is it to HK, or are there any other games that you can compare it to?

I’m really struggling being a dad.

Everyday feels the same.

Wake up to my 1.5 year old crying, for the 4th time that night. My 4 year old wakes up shortly after (usually b/c of the 1.5 year old crying).

In between the kids screaming/fighting with each other I make breakfast for everyone. After breakfast I have to beg my 4 year old to use the bathroom, otherwise they’ll pee/poo themselves once they get to daycare. After struggling to get my 1.5 year old dressed, I spend 5 mins begging my 4 year old to put on their shoes/jacket. When everyone is finally ready, I get the in the car and drive them to daycare.

Finally some quiet. I go to the gym for an hour and the work til 4:30pm. My days can be stressful, but it depends on my workload. I work remote/from home.

Kids get home around 4:30 and I’ve already started to make dinner. Both kids are usually crying/screaming b/c they are hungry or don’t want to share the toys.

I finish making dinner around 5:15, we try and have a chill dinner but either the 1.5 year old doesn’t want to sit in their high-chair and screams until my wife holds them, or my 4 year old thinks dinner is “gross” and will cry for something else (we don’t give in).

After dinner, my wife cleans the kitchen and I entertain the kids/give bathes. 4 year old doesn’t like bathes so it’s always a struggle to get them in the bath.

It’s 6:15 now and I’m just so tired of all the screaming and crying I let the eat a snack and watch a show until bed. I feel like I’m counting the minutes until bedtime.

Once asleep I either catch up on work, watch a show with my wife, or play some video games for an hour or two… then bed.

Repeat. Every. Single. Day.

I dread the weekends, b/c it feels like it’s just 12-15 hours of kids just screaming, yelling, fighting. It’s me begging my 4 year old to go to the bathroom b/c I can see he has to go but he rather hold it so he doesn’t need to stop what he’s doing. It’s me dealing with a meltdown b/c I said no chocolate for lunch.

I just feel so burnt out. Tired.

I love my kids so much. I really do. When they’re sweet, they’re the sweetest. I know they look up to me, and I try to put on a happy face… but today I just can’t.

I just really feel like I’m struggling. I’m 37 years old. I have no friends, so I’ve come to Reddit for support.

I feel so defeated.

Really digging the game so far (just got to Biome 3), but outside of cutscenes the in-game character models are awful.

Really having a good time with this game, but I absolutely hate how the characters look outside of cutscenes. Everyone looks so robotic, lifeless, static… they just sorta stand around and yell lines at each other, I hate it.

Gameplay is great tho!

The “Horoscope Pentagon” is a funny thing…

I really don’t understand how these stats are calculated. Does anybody?

Yes, I titled queued for a couple hours last week, mashed, and essentially plummeted my defense stat to below 50…

However, I just played for a couple hours with the mindset of “play more defensive.” Really trying to slow down the game, look for react-able lows, side step more, etc. I was doing pretty good… losing more, but also blocking and punishing which was the goal of the session.

However, during my time I came across players that just didn’t stop pressing. Counter hit, after counter hit. Heat burst round start. Not breaking throws, etc.

After a match I look at their stats and their defense stat sits between 70-60.

I look at my stats after playing for 2 hours, actively trying to play more defensively… THE SAME FUCKING NUMBER.

How? I know this pentagon is a joke and my defense isn’t great (I typically sit within the 60 range), yet I can’t for the life of me bring that number up since my tilt queuing.

Over the last little bit it’s been clear that rank inflation is real, and everything has shifted around 1-2 ranks. This isn’t a surprise b/c the system has been adjusted so that someone would eventually hit GoD8.

However, what’s also shockingly apparent is that now any sense of achievement and success in this game is immediately stripped from the player by its own community.

Every new rank up post is now littered with comments like:

“GoD is basically S1 TK”

“You need to be at least GoD2 to be considered good at the game”

“Ranks are free to GoD”

Even players posting about their rank up success need to downplay their achievement:

“I know it’s not much with rank inflation, but I got GoD”

“Got TK, I guess rank inflation is real”

“I don’t feel I deserve this rank b/c the ranks are inflated”

It’s really disheartening and sad that we as a community can’t lift each other up, especially when many ppl are just looking to celebrate their achievement with other players.

Tekken is a hard fucking game. It has a huge cast of characters, 1000s of moves, can move in all directions, wall hazards, floor breaks, throw breaks, rage art, heat engagers, etc. It’s a lot to overcome, no matter the rank.

And I get being salty, or feel like a certain character carries, or the mechanics are BS, but we’re all playing the same game. We’re all overcoming the same obstacles.

Do we really need another excuse to tear each other down? 😔

EDIT: It feels like some of ya’ll are missing the point and turning this post into an argument about rank inflation. This isn’t about whether or not rank inflation is real (it is), it’s about showing support to players within this community.

Basically I reached TGS with a 62% winrate. I’m not a great player, but I think I’m somewhat decent at the game. Yoshi does carry me too.

Anyway, I foolishly decided that I would just try and see what happens. I eventually made it to my promo match, but lost. I tried again… and again… and again… “just one more match.”

I started mashing, playing tilted, pure tunnel vision. I played a lot of games, stayed up too late, and now my winrate sits at 51%, my defense stat has dropped below 50, I’m stuck between TG and TGS, and I generally feel stupid and defeated.

I dunno what the point of this post is. I just feel dumb and have no one to share this with. Do ya’ll ever get like this?

I think I need to take a break.

I have a 62% Ranked winrate with Yoshi at TGS. My end goal is to reach GoD.

Many people have told me that if your WR is above 50% you should be able to climb, however my Quick Match winrate is at 43% and the opponents in QM are quite strong.

I do find that Ranked is typically “easier” than Quick Match, but considering I’ve only fought a handful of GoD players it’s hard for me to gauge if I’m ready.

TLDR: How do you know you’re ready to climb? Do you just grind ranked? Do you play QM until you win a certain amount?
