Confirmation that the 2026 CHR EV is designed to recharge the 12 V battery based on time and not state of charge.

So, I read in the 2023 Subaru Solterra Service Manual that it is designed to recharge the 12v battery if long term parked for 20 days. While doing another test I noticed that at some point my CHR recharged the 12v battery on its own because I did not turn it on for over 2 weeks, but I was unsure of exactly how long it was since I turned it on.

So, I bought an Ancel BM200 and installed it on the evening of July 28. I also turned on my CHR and left it in the READY mode for an hour because I was going on vacation for a week. When I returned from vacation, I decided to not use my CHR to see for sure if it would turn on again and recharge the 12v battery.

When I checked the BM200 today, I saw that my CHR turned on and charged the 12v battery last night. Last night would have been exactly 14 days or two weeks since I last turned my CHR on. Unfortunately, the BM 200 only allows 5-day graphs but I included all graphs since I installed it.

This confirms that the CHR, and possibly related vehicles, is designed to turn on and recharge the 12v battery but it is not based on state of charge of the 12v battery, it appears to be based on time. I assume it is based on the last time you turned the CHR on and not the last time you actually put it in Drive but I'm not 100% sure. Either way, it is around 14 days.

I know it is not based on state of charge because I have parked my CHR with the 12v battery in a lower state of charge and my CHR did not recharge it. Also, this explains why the Connected Services can completely drain the 12v battery and the CHR, and related vehicles, do not detect the low state of charge and turn on to recharge the 12v battery.

Also, my CHR is affected by the 12v battery drain so I deactivated the Connected Services and the drain is completely stopped.

12-Volt battery drain. Has anyone tried resetting the DCM and the Infotainment?

So, I found this on the Solterra forum website. It is unclear if it actually works but, in this case, Subaru suggested resetting the DCM and performing a hard reset on the infotainment. From the TSBs that I have read, you can reset the DCM by disconnecting the negative from the 12v for at least 30 minutes before reinstalling it. I left it disconnected for an hour just to be sure. Then do a hard reset on the infotainment screen which is in the settings menu on the main screen. This erases everything from the main screen and it will be like when you picked up the car for the first time.

I'm currently in the process of testing this out but I do not have a battery monitor. I only have a multimeter. I reset the DCM and the infotainment and reactivated my car in the app with all the connected services active. I'm on my second day without turning it on and I haven't seen any major drops in volts but like some people have said, it doesn't drain every night and then it returns. I have noticed though that I'm not getting any weird messages saying my doors are unlocked or my window is down. I will update in a few but if anyone, especially with a battery monitor, have already tried this please let us know.

Here is a link.

How to deactivate the DCM and stop the 12-Volt battery drain.

Here is how I stopped my CHR from draining all the power out of the 12-volt overnight. This only works in the Toyota App, not an option in the car, and after deactivating the DCM, the factory navigation and other connected services will no longer work but the 12-volt won't drain overnight. When Toyota fixes the issue, it is easy to reactivate the DCM in the app. Hopefully this helps someone. It should also work for the BZ, BZ Woodland, Lexus RZ, Subaru CHR, Trailseeker, and Solterra.

  1. Tap the icon in the top right of screen

  2. Tap "Account"

  3. Scroll down and tap "Privacy Portal and Legal info"

  4. Tap "Vehicle Specific Settings"

  5. Tap "Vehicle connectivity"

  6. Scroll down and tap "Deactivate Vehicle"
