Late bedtime perk!

My baby is 7mo and has always done better with a later bedtime. She’s been sleeping 9pm-8am recently and I realized something that I kind of love about this!

I usually don’t get much evening time but I like to go to bed early anyways. Since she sleeps till 8am - I can either sleep in with her if we had a rougher night, or if we slept well I’ll wake up at 6am and get potentially a full two hours of quiet alone time in the morning.

I kind of love this set up because if she woke up earlier I would never have the option to sleep in. Just sharing this perk for those that might be frustrated about not having as much evening time!

Great situation, over the work itself. How do I decide when to leave?

I returned from maternity leave a few months ago, so I recognize I may not be thinking clearly, but I just feel stuck with how to proceed in my current role.

Pros: love the people I work with, love my manager, flexible hours, family friendly, remote

Cons: burnt out from the work itself, years of changes in leadership has led to feeling like we’ve “started over” with a new strategy at least 1x a year and have never truly made an progress. Lacking motivation to care or be interested. Everyday feels like a mess / chaotic.

I know I’m extremely lucky to have a remote flexible job, and I wouldn’t leave unless I found another one to be honest.

I’ve been considering leaving for something I’m more excited about, but I always question whether I would regret it. Does that even matter in this season of my life?

I also feel SO guilty at the thought of leaving my team as I’d be putting them in a tough spot (could care less about leaving the company, to be clear). I guess that’s a con to actually enjoying the people you work with.

Any insights from others that have been in a similar situation would be appreciated!

Tell me what tricks you use to resettle your babes while cosleeping.

I had the idea for this post last night as my 6 mo old has been waking up pretty frequently. She’ll do a 5-6hr stretch and then gets restless and is stirring every hour or so. The morning hours can be rough.

Obviously, there’s the boob, but sometimes other methods can work faster (and I just need a break)! Here’s what I try and would love to hear your tips:

- holding her briefly under my arm
- holding her hand
- moving her onto her side
- moving her onto her back
- playing white noise louder for a moment
- pacifier (rarely works for us but sometimes a bait and switch with the boob will work!)

What am I missing??

Husband wants to sleep train.

Looking for advice on how to approach this. I don’t know how we’re going to get through this battle. My husband is definitely convinced sleep training is the way, and it really doesn’t help that our pediatrician brings it up at our appts and recommends it...

I’ve told him I am very against it and I would like to try other methods first and/or continue co-sleeping. But he continues to bring it up. How have you gotten through this debate if you and your partner aren’t on the same page?

Edit to add: our baby is 5months. I currently do most of the co-sleeping/night wakings but he will sometimes take over in the morning if I had a rough night as we’ve been going through the textbook 4mo sleep regression.

Is it safe to roll away while co-sleeping?

Like many I started co sleeping during the 4mo sleep regression and haven’t stopped. My LO is 5mo now and we co-sleep in a king bed (husband usually sleeps in another room for now). This morning I rolled away from her for an hour or so and slept on my stomach instead of being in the c-curl. She is in the middle of the bed away from pillows and blankets and doesn’t roll or move much in her sleep.

Is this safe? It is really nice for my body to get a break from the c-curl position but was feeling unsure.

I hate how much I think about sleep.

My baby is 4.5 months and has been sleepy poorly for most of her life now. We’ve gotten a few good nights but it’s never lasted. my whole day and night are consumed by sleep thoughts. Will I ever sleep again? How will she sleep tonight? How was her nap? What time is bedtime? What if we tried X tonight? The first thing people often ask me is - how is she sleeping?

I think I’m most envious of parents who have good sleepers because they can actually stop and enjoy their baby. What would this experience even be like if I wasn’t constantly thinking about how exhausted I was? I know I should stop browsing posts on Reddit from other sleep deprived parents, but it’s the only thing that makes me feel less alone.

I so badly want to accept my new sleep deprived reality and be able to fully enjoy my time with her but it’s so hard to not let it affect me. I guess I am just sad and frustrated that my motherhood experience can be so defined by one thing that is largely out of my control.

She’s tagged in several of his posts. Seems like a very odd pairing even as friends? Can’t figure this girl out!
