Rome Historic Trail with one Scout and one AOL and 2 adults

We will be in Rome this summer and would love to get the historic trail patch for Rome.

I am a registered leader for the troop and the pack. If my wife registers for both the troop and the pack would our hike count?

The hike can be done as a unit or as a family. It also says ensure 2 deep leadership at all time.

When AOLs camp with a Troop, can they share a tent with their parent if they are not the same gender?

My daughter is an AOL and will be camping with a Troop. Is she allowed to share a tent with her father or does she have to tent alone/with another scout?

Her father is registered with the Troop and will be there for 2-deep and adult supervision for both the Troop and the Den.

My understanding is that scouts can only share a tent with same gender parents, so not sure whether the same rule would apply to my AOL daughter.

8:00 Vatican + 12:50 Colosseum Attic Visit on 28/7

I first booked Vatican tickets to secure 8:00 tickets as these could be booked many weeks in advance.

I was then able to snag the highly coveted Colosseum Attic tickets at 12:50 on the same day. As you know these tickets are very difficult to get so when I found availability and the payment went through, I went ahead and completed the purchase out of fear I wouldn’t be able to get it at a later time.

Tickets are non-refundable and no changes allowed.

Any tips to manage the day? 🙈🙈

My son has recently joined scouting and I am concerned about the risk of grooming/abuse given the organization‘s history. What have you done as parents to safeguard your scout? How safe or unsafe is scouting? YPT sounds great, but is it really working to protect the youth?

I am concerned given the sheer number of reported abuse cases in the organization‘s history.

What can I do to safeguard my son? I’ve already registered as a leader and try to join activities, meetings and campouts.

YPT looks great on paper but how effective is it?

I’m not comfortable with my scout sharing a tent - we both prefer that he tents alone.

Does my scout have to share a tent with someone? Can he choose to get his own tent especially for summer camp?

Recommendations for freestanding trekking 2p tent from Italy or Germany.

I will be traveling to Italy and Germany and would like to buy a backpacking tent comparable to big Agnes copper spur or similar. I currently have the option to buy the BA Agnes copper spur UL2 for 450$.

Would I find a better option in Italy or Germany?

I am also happy buying a cheaper option.

One Week in Italy - Rome, Florence, Venice & Milan - Shall I add one extra night in Rome or visit Lake Como?

July 27 - Arrive in Rome + Historical Center, Rome Hotel
July 28 - Vatican Area + Colosseum Area, Rome Hotel
July 29 - Full Day in Florence, Venice Hotel
July 30 - Full Day in Venice, Venice Hotel
July 31 - Milan Sightseeing, Milan Hotel
Aug 1 - Lake Como Day Trip, Milan Hotel
Aug 2 - Serravalle Outlet, Milan Hotel
Aug 3 - Depart from Milan

We want a taster trip to see as much as possible - the only change I am looking at is adding a night in Rome and skipping Lake Como.

Will arrive in Rome on Monday 27/7 afternoon, and will leave Wednesday 29/7 morning. Will visit Vatican on Tuesday 28/7, 8am. Is it better to see the Colosseum Monday afternoon right after we land in Rome, or the next day after we spend the morning in the Vatican?

We are a family of 4 with 2 girls age 13 and 9. We will arrive in FCO on Monday 27/7 and will leave by train on Wednesday 29/7. This is what we plan to see:

- Monday, 5pm till evening: Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Spanish Steps
- Tuesday, 8am - 1pm: Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica
- Tuesday 4pm till evening: Colosseum, Roman Forum
- Wednesday 9am: Leave Rome

Should I move anything around? Is it better to do the Colosseum on the day we arrive?

Trying to use shop and ship with a non-US credit card but keep getting rejected

I‘m trying to buy gear from REI using a shop and ship account with a US address but my credit card and billing info is from another country. My order does not get processed - is there a way round this?

Sleeping Pad Recommendations: Exped Ultra 6.5 or Sea to Summit Ether Light or Decathlon?

I‘m not based in the USA but can order using shop and ship and the price would be reasonable because of the Memorial Day sales. Shall I get one of these sleeping pads or is there a better option in Decathlon Italy where I will be going soon?

It doesn’t have to be ultralight but I need to keep the weight down if I will use shop and ship.

Which is the most comfortable of these 3 pillows: Exped Megapillow, Nemo Fillo, Sea to Summit Aeros Premium

I am ordering a camping pillow online and do not have access to checking them out in person. Which is the most comfortable? Not too concerned about volume and just need to keep weight below 9oz/250g. Which is the best for side sleepers.

Recommendations for new scout gear list

I‘m putting together a packing list for new scouts joining our troop. Would appreciate if anyone has a list to share.

We provide tents and patrol boxes.

What kind of gear do you recommend for scouts to buy? Would appreciate specific brand name options too.

The packing/gear list is aimed at scouts and families who have never camped and were not part of the Cub Scout program.

Recommendations for Family Camping Spots

I need recommendations for camping spots for a group of 10-15ppl. We would prefer to have some privacy as we are families with children. It would be best if we can get there without SUV.

It doesn’t need to be near a beach.

Rome to Florence Train, 29 July 2026 there is railway maintenance

I’m trying to book a train from Rome to Florence on 29 July and it appears that all high speed trains are unavailable to book because of scheduled railway maintenance near the Florence intersection.

It says : ***Rail overpass replacement work for the “Ponte al Pino” railway bridge, 26 July – 30 July 2026: line interruption for installation/launching of the new bridge span.***

Is it likely that trains would become available closer to the date?

Do they normally schedule less high speed trains during maintenance or will they all be unavailable and we just have to use regional trains?
