can I do it as someone who has never worked with leather, any tips and recommendations on how to approach this, what type of leather and tools do I need

I have some brown chuck 70 lows and I feel like they are too bland. I dont want them to be like a punk grunge style where its all dirty cause I already have that, I cant chose of something to draw/paint on it. My inspiration is like the GOLF Le fleur designs and the Graphic design Vans with the flames, I want this pair to serve as a statement piece with bright popping colors and cool designs. I need ideas, thats it
