[macOS] Pin your apps or websites in your MacOS menu bar

You know that feeling when you're heads down on something, you alt-tab to check one quick thing, and suddenly your reference doc is buried under six other windows? Yeah. That was killing me 😂

So I built TopShelf, a lightweight menu bar app that lets you pin any window on top of everything else, across every desktop. Your Notion notes, your Figma reference, whatever. It just stays there.

I looked everywhere for something that did exactly this without bloat, and couldn't find it. So I shipped my own. It's notarized by Apple, it lives in your menu bar, and it gets out of your way. No data being collected so it's 100% safe.

If it sounds useful: TopShelf

I just built a simple app that lets you pin any window on top of everything else. I started using it myself because I was tired of constantly hunting through tabs and losing my flow. It’s simple, lightweight, and keeps your essentials visible across all desktops.

I couldn't find a streamlined tool that did exactly what I needed, so I decided to make it myself.

Now, my most important windows stay visible no matter which desktop I’m on. It’s been a total game-changer for my workflow.

My app was already notarized by Apple and currently live on Gumroad.

Love to hear your feedback.

Feel free to check it out on my website.

Hey everyone,

I've been finding that even with the extra power of the Neo, I still end up buried in windows when I'm deep in a project. I couldn't find a lightweight way to just "pin" a specific window (like a reference doc or a mini player) so it stays visible across all my Spaces.

I ended up building a small app called TopShelf to handle this. It’s fully notarized and runs natively. I’m mostly looking to see if this workflow makes sense to anyone else here or if there are features I should add.

There’s a trial version if you want to poke around: topshelf.apoiolabs.com

Let me know what you think!

ok so this is kinda silly but hear me out.

you know when you're working on something and you tab over real quick to check slack or a doc or whatever, and then your main window is just… gone? buried under everything? and you gotta go fishing for it again?

yeah that was me. all day. every day.

i tried a few apps that were supposed to fix this but they were either bloated, sketchy, or hadn't been touched since 2017. so one weekend i was like screw it, i'll just build the thing myself.

it's literally just a little menu bar app. you click the window you want on top, it stays on top, across all your desktops. that's it. no settings menu from hell, no subscription, nothing weird.

i've been using it every day for a while now and it genuinely fixed something i didn't realize was bugging me that much.

here if you're curious.

but actually curious — what do y'all use for this? am i the only one who deals with this lol

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share a small utility I built to solve a personal frustration. Like many of you, my workflow often involves cross-referencing notes, following tutorials, or keeping a specific chat/timer visible while working in other apps.

I found myself constantly hunting through tabs or "Alt-Tabbing" back and forth, which was a huge distraction. I couldn't find a streamlined, modern tool that did exactly what I needed (especially one that stayed visible across all virtual desktops), so I decided to build it myself.

What it does:

  • Always on Top: Pins any window (browser, terminal, notes, etc.) to the foreground.
  • Lightweight: No heavy background processes; it’s designed to stay out of the way.
  • Sticky Windows: Your pinned window stays visible even when you switch between different desktops/spaces.
  • Native & Secure: It’s already notarized by Apple, so it runs smoothly and securely. No data being collected, its all saved on your device.

I would appreciate your feedback on this to help us further refine and improve the app.

Feel free to check it out the website.
