Imperial Knight Scale

I've been working on my Krieg-themed Guard army, the 389th Aurora Chasers, for a while now. The centerpiece of the army is meant to be a Knight Castellan, the Lady Louise d'Armilly.

I really want to play with the scale of the model in context, like the Pacific Rim scene where they fire flare guns at a Kaiju from atop their Jaeger, or the fastball stuff from Titanfall 2, or in Power Rangers when the Green Ranger jumps onto the Megazord and climbs inside to fight the Rangers. I really love when giant robots do stuff like that to contextualize the actual scale!

So far, I know I want to have a magnetized Krieger with a rocket launcher representing my HK Missile and a Krieger scaling down the shoulder with like a wrench for repairs, but I was wondering if anyone else had ideas or examples? I'd love to see them! 💕

How do you denote rank?

Obviously, any good military has a chain of command and the Astra Militarum is no different, with stuff like commissars and watchmasters. So I'm curious: when you're building and painting your models, do you do anything specific to denote where they fall in the hierarchy?

I plan to split mine up by gold, silver, bronze and plain metal markings depending on if they're Top (making all important decisions), Field (giving orders in battle) or Squad (like ten guys are their responsibility) command.

Krieg Shock Command

Pretty minor kitbash, but I need to buy a few things before I can start painting my Kriegers, so I thought I'd work on some units that aren't in my list.
Put together the leftover Krieg command squad with some Cadian Command Squad parts.

The Commisar will be used in my list as a Psyker proxy, altered here to be holding its own head up.

Spare 65 Points?

Doing a Krieg-themed list for my first army, and I'm kinda at a weird spot. I have a spare 65 points but I'm not sure what to put them into.
I'm still using Grizzled Company, although I think there might be a better option in 11th, probably just casual play. Don't know what I might face, I've never played a game before.

So far I've got:

Lord Solar - 130
(Orders artillery, free Command Points, redeploy)

Gaunt's Ghosts - 95

Krieg Command Squad - 60
Attached: 20xDKoK - 145

Primaris Psyker - 60
Attached: 20 DKoK - 145
(Might be better to use Cadian stats?)

Rogal Dorn Commander - 300
(Laud Hailer)

Tech-Priest Enginseer - 45

Artillery Team - 95

Artillery Team - 95

5xKrieg Combat Engineers - 65

Hellhound - 125

Leman Russ Punisher - 150

Knight Castellan - 425

That's 1935, leaving me with 65 to spare. Obviously the army's centerpiece is the Knight Castellan, which I'm commited to taking, and I've heard Arty is a bit shite but I'd like to keep it anyway. Main idea is to soften things up with the Hellhound and Arty, blast anything big with the Castellan, while cleaning up smaller stuff with my other tanks and screening with the Kriegers. Gaunt's Ghosts are here to jump around completing chores.

I've heard Bullgryns are good this edition? But I fuckin' hate the look of those models and I'm not sure they work without a transport. There's also choices like scout sentinels, heavy weapons team, or trading models for higher point cost options. I'm just not sure what to do, any suggestions?

Krieg Psyker

My first time significantly modifying a model! And my first time using green stuff! Not based or painted yet, I'll get around to it.
I'm still figuring out the neck, I'm thinking of drilling it out and either leaving it bare or placing some tech skulls in. Eventually, they'll lead a 20 blob on the table, and those models are all going to be modified with severe injuries they've somehow survived and piecemeal prosthetics they've cobbled together, like the psychic shield (invul save) isn't protecting them but just keeping them alive.
Edit: I forgot to note! This Commissar model will be my proxy for a Primaris Psyker, cause I really hate the Primaris Psyker model. Conehead lookin' ass.

Lorewise, I like to think they're an unknown in the Unending March's ranks, nameless and headless. They lead a squadron of Kriegers with grievous, terrible injuries yet always leave the battlefield unharmed.

Paint Recommendations?

In a few days, I'm buying my first paints to put on my first minis! I'm going for a snow-themed army, primarily white with black as a secondary color. Units will be distinguished by accents of gold, silver or copper and pink for any glow effects like plasma.

I'll be doing trench bases with AK Terrains' snow, ice sprinkles and snow sprinkles for effects.

I was looking at Army Painter's line primarily, mostly for their metallics which I think look great, maybe P3 Morrow White as well I think it looks pretty clean. If anyone has specific recommendations or things I should look out for, I'd love them.

I don't have a ton of money to spend, so I can't just get a big range, I have to get the right stuff the first time.

Just One (1) Commissar

One of my Krieg 20 Blobs will be lead by a Primaris Psyker, which I'll be proxying as a Krieg Commissar holding his own head.
Problem is, I can't find one on its own, just as part of the Command Squad box. There's some on Ebay, but they're already assembled and priced at like $30-35, at that point I might as well just buy the box for a few bucks more.

Is there anywhere I can buy just the Commissar sprues at a more reasonable price? Or should I just buy the box and use the extra models elsewhere?

I assembled my first little guys!

I had some fun with the details, the watchmaster has a bunch of grenades and I turned a chainsword into a bayonet.
No paint yet and I'll probably end up replacing their bases for more interesting options, but I had a lot of fun! (And only cut myself once.)
