Man of the people.
It costs $88000, sorry $88600, to take a picture with Trump.
Learning more about Claude's mathematical capabilities
Claude managed to do some significant work on the Riemann Hypothesis increasing the provable lower bound for the fraction of zeros of the Riemann zeta function that satisfy the Riemann hypothesis from 41.6% to 67.2%
But what is interesting to me is the description of how Claude was prompted and how it worked.
This was done over two sessions. This wasn't "ask a question and throw the buffer away and start over on every failure". I think the buffer was never cleared and this took 651 attempts over two or three days.
>Jarred Sumner, an Anthropic staff member (and non-mathematician), prompted Claude to “take a real stab” at the hypothesis itself, leaving the mathematical choices from there up to the model. Initially, Claude generated and tried 650 ideas, none of which worked. Jarred prompted Claude to try again, and it spent a day and a half coordinating about 60 Claude subagents, which this time went much deeper: between them, they ran 2,400 shell commands and wrote hundreds of Python scripts.^(1) The subagents ran thousands of numerical checks against known zeta zeros and refereed one another’s work. Throughout this process, Jarred's input was mostly limited to sending Claude messages of encouragement (mostly variants of “keep going” or “believe in yourself”).^(2) This seems to have helped Claude overcome some initial skepticism that it could make meaningful progress.
>Having found this new result while attempting the task, Claude tested its work by having various subagents review the proofs, search for counterexamples, download 54 papers from the arXiv to check that its finding hadn’t already been made, and independently re-prove its finding from scratch. Claude volunteered to write its findings up as a paper, and recommended that a human number theorist validate its findings.
>Levent Alpöge and Ralph Furman, two of Anthropic’s own mathematicians, examined Claude’s work to understand the new results and how they related to the prior work mentioned above. In parallel, Claude worked with another member of staff, Eric Easley, to produce a Lean formalization of the result, which passes the standard validation tool comparator.
Claude had access to the web while doing the work, but did not use it. It didn't use the web until it had a result and expressed doubt that it could be original.
I won't harp on the fact that the prompt was vague and that the supervision of the process that returned results consisted of emotional support. I'm not surprised that that worked.

"Iran has no military capabilities, I completely obliterated them!" - Trump hiding from Iran in the back of an airport food truck.
Economic truth followed by my observation that desperate insecurity lead these undeserving elites to Fascism
Given the evidence, you also can't have Elon Musk and democracy. And you can't have Elon Musk and rule of law. And you can't have Elon Musk and not have ethnic cleansing or genocide.
Also add Donald Trump to that list and Peter Thiel, RFK Jr. (who, if you have forgotten, tweeted 14/88), Stephen Miller, Russell Vought and all the rest .
Don't buy roli software now.
I bought the Roli software at PluginBoutique this morning but I can't download it. I guess the company is being liquidated or something. Someone over on r/ROLI says that he paid for hardware from them and now the order status page is missing.
Plugin Boutique has a bundle of MPE software called "MPE Synth Bundle" that has Equator 2, Roli Studio as well as Modular and Quanta 2 by other companies for about 40% off.
I wanted it because Equator 2 and maybe Roli Studio are one of the best MPE synths and I have a Linnstrument. Can't find good patches for it.
But the download links don't work. If I find the right pages manually they say both But it both says "out of stock" and "We're currently undergoing site maintenance. Please check back later."
I have license codes but I have a feeling that they will never be honored!
Update: one piece of software you can get from Roli is their "Roli connect" software. I thought maybe it could get my software through that with the license PluginBoutique sold me.
Well first it asks which hardware you bought, and it doesn't even include their expressive controller in the list. I skipped that and it has a place for software, click on those and you get links to the shut down website.
But there is third part where you can register products with serial numbers. I put in the license code that PluginBoutique sold me and...
It tells me that that is an upgrade license for software I don't own so I am not entitled to download anything.
There is a POSSIBILITY that you could still download the software using Roli Connect and a valid license but PluginBoutique isn't giving out valid licenses.
If I check my "library" page at PluginBoutique it put an upgrade version of Roli's Equator 2 there, not the full version I paid for. The internal PluginBoutique link does indeed go to the wrong PluginBoutique webpage.
So if there was a chance I you can still get the software at this last minute, then PluginBoutique messed it up.
I feel like Democratic politicians are way way WAY too timid to adjust to the new reality that Trump created for us.
For instance, since Trump betrayed of 100% of our allies other than Israel and no one will ever trust us to protect them again and they don't want our weapons, we don't actually need a large Pentagon budget!!
6 Democrats in the House crossed party lines to save a bill raising the Pentagon budget 28%
Enlarging the Pentagon has no purpose other than piracy to benefit the Trump kleptocratic family.
For example, Trump had 100 sailors murdered in Venezuela's waters and his only excuse was smuggling Fentanyl to the United States. He didn't just hit civilian boats, he double tapped them which is just murder.
And about the given reason, that part of the world doesn't have Fentanyl and none of the drug smuggling routes through Venezuela go to the United States. Cocaine goes through it to Europe. And also no one believes that Trump cares about crime, except getting a cut of it.
Then he kidnapped the President, saying that he was going to restore democracy - and did none of that, he hasn't harmed the regime itself at all, just like Iran.
He just wanted to take oil and he bragged about taking oil.
And he literally took a Chinese tanker of oil and stole it in one of his petty (relative to the scale of a presidency) crimes.
I suspect that the reason for killing sailors is that he was frustrated that ICE and the National Guard can't just get away with killing Americans by the hundreds at a time so he looked for substitute victims for murder. He wants to feel dominant in an evil way and invading Canada isn't looking very feasible and setting up death camps isn't easy etc. But killing random brown people in South America is something, that sadly, the world and Americans are used to overlooking. He can do it and get away with it with no political cost at all.
And, to our great shame, he did.
But back to enlarging the Pentagon: Our alliances are over. Trump killed them permanently.
Why can't Democrats adjust to this permanent fact?
The money is wasted! We need to redirect it!
Can Democrats please acknowledge the fact?
What's the most of the Pentagon budget for?
Is it just Keynesian money spreading for a service no one wants?
Is it to solicit kickback payments? Is it just for political corruption?
What is it for now?
^((one more note, I see a lot of complaint in this subreddit about the DSA. If Democrats seemed passionate enough to be connected to reality like this, people wouldn't need to side with the DSA saying abolish the Pentagon))
I'm getting pushback by people who are upset that criticism of the party is common but miss the actual policy issue. Democrats should be talking about the fact that we don't need the world's biggest military budget now that we don't have a world that wants our military. We have no one to protect, so we shouldn't be wasting money on the military. We have other uses for our money.
I don't know if the latest W11 and NVidia update hates RTX 3060s or if I just got lucky, but there's a new Desktop Windows Manager settings the broke my computer till I fixed them (graphics lags make the mouse and windows barely usable).
After recent updates I often found the mouse lagging so badly with it disappearing and stopping for maybe 1/8 of a second when moving over elements on web pages, over the edge of youtube panes. Moving windows around was very very slow and stuttery and opening the start menu caused a big pause on updating the screen too.
And to be honest, just typing seemed to trigger this stuff enough to make writing text slow down.
This desktop machine has 128 gb of ram, a 10 core processor and an rtx 3060, so it shouldn't have any problems just updating a display.
Gemini seems to think the problems stem from Microsoft creating hardware layers and trying to synchronize updates in windows to the screen, and (in some new settings) even trying to slow the screen down to match user interface drawing from non-games.
Now I don't care at all if windows continues to have screen tearing on user interface items so turning this update off is a 100% win
The settings I changed that fixed it:
- turn off the new hardware overlay compositor:
Start up regedit, go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM" and add a DWORD (32-bit) value called OverlayTest.
Right click or double click on it and set the binary value to 5.
- "Display Settings" which you can get to by rightclicking on desktop or by opening Settings and doing a search for "Display" has a horizontal bar on that you have to scroll down to called "Graphics" under "Related Settings". Click on that. It brings up a new page. On that, there's another horizontal bar called "Advanced graphics settings" It's the third bar under "Default Settings". Clicked on Advanced graphics setting and that will unfold two on/off switches.
They read "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling" and "Variable Refresh rate - get higher frame rates in games that don't support this by default"
"Variable Refresh rate" is your varmint! This is not gsync or freesync, this is some abomination that attempts to do the same on every window on your screen that is not a game and not designed for variable refresh rates. Run away! And turn it off.
Gemini also suggests turning off "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling". I've tried games both with it on and off and it doesn't appear to have a noticeable effect anyway. And Gemini claims that with recent versions of drivers and Windows updates it causes microstutters in games.
Anyway, make these changes, reboot and suddenly the desktop is 100% usable again.
This all might have been made worse by a machine with only PCIe 3 and no resizable bar. Meh, did they have to make just using the desktop break for old machines?
I fear for people who can't get the message that windows is fixable.
I have a feeling that my last couple month of only booting to linux when I had a choice might have been started by my feeling this bug before I really thought about it and not realizing that it could be fixed. You just see Windows be unusable, and think bloated and bad and you switch to Unix or Apple.
Microsoft better fix this or they're going to drive away customers.
It seems that recent updates to Windows 11 and/or NVidia drivers can make the mouse lag to the point where the machine seems barely unusable. But the change can be reverted.

Openly admitting our new morals.
Trump just imposed a 50% tariff on Canada, saying "they need us to survive."
Stop and think about his thought process, we should victimize Canadians because they're vulnerable. And he's not ashamed of having promoting the morals of a robber. If you see people who are helpless, steal everything you can! That's America's new morals.
That and whatever severe crimes against humanity we're committing against brown and Black immigrants. Maybe sending Hispanic families to "prison" in Sri Lanka or Siera Leone or Jabuuti to disappear, die, become enslave or be sex trafficked. Shame that even the liberal American media won't lift a finger to find out what happened to tens of thousands of people, so far.
Our media is too languid to find out what happened to a single Mitch McConnell, who can expect them to care about missing tens of thousands of non-whites?
F.B.I. Agents have all been briefed that the agency will no long investigate any claimed assaults by ICE agents even to collect evidence or ascertain if anything happened, but OF COURSE senior officials deny these facts to the press.
Clearly, this administration is a corrupt organization and every single person who obeys an order from this corrupt president belongs on trial for RICO violations AS WELL as for the laws, rights and parts of the constitution that they're violating for the criminal president.
I confronted a couple MAGA men with the fact that Trump brags that he sent men to as death and torture camp called CECOT in El Salvador, and they responded by SUPPORTING that.
Let's establish some facts. In the first weeks of the Trump administration, he sent 300 men (none of them FROM El Salvador) to CECOT, and while you may assume that's over because the court got men brought back, one fact is that Homeland Security doesn't release exact names and numbers as far as I can tell.
Victims at CECOT were reportedly beaten every day and I notice that the estimates the press of the number of men sent is a few more than the later estimate of the number of men returned. So a few might have been killed along the way.
I am so ashamed of this country that these details aren't important enough to be investigated. That the press doesn't look into questions like "what happened to individuals sent to countries and even continents they'd never come from?"
Are grandmothers dying on the streets of countries they're not from? Are women being sold to slavers?
This isn't any meaning of the word "deportation" and I'm ashamed of every reporter who accepted the use of that word and of every journal that printed it.
Just by accepting the words that we do, we're guilty of participating in crimes against our neighbors and their families.
The reaction I got from multiple men when I told them that Trump send hundreds of men, 1/3 of whom had no criminal record to a death camp whose own government admits is a death camp was "did they come into the country illegally?"
It doesn't matter to them even slightly. They could have come here as 4 year olds, they still support them being tortured to death en-mass.
Seemingly nice men up to that point. People who think of themselves as normal.
Not people who have pictures of Hitler in their wallet.
I know one of them well enough to know that his wife is a Russian immigrant. And she's Jewish as well, but seemingly her husband would be happy to see a holocaust of their neighbors.
They casually wish torture and death on their neighbors without the slightest reflection.
I argued strongly with one of them but did not get any reaction other than being told "you think that" and "I can see your hostility."
I'm so angry knowing that I'm surrounded by men who would happily see a Holocaust I can't sleep at night.
I also want to add, as the killing part of an ethnic cleansing gets more obvious, and Trump keeps these people supporting it by projecting PRIDE in his atrocities, "abolish ICE" sets the bar lower than people who still have any humanity need. We need "punish ICE". "Punish the administration." "Punish the leaders!"
I know we just got to celebrating that Woke Bill Kristol got all the way to calling for ICE to be abolished, but we may ask for one more step. Sorry for levity, but I just can't take this anymore.
Substack seems completely broken today
Maybe a new version of Edge was to blame with a windows update that made me log into things again.
I tried logging into substack. I used an old email that I had changed but it didn't ask for a login and didn't give me access to my subscriptions, though it did list them.
So then I put in my new email address and it asked for a code, I got a code from an email, but it didn't actually log me in and I still didn't have access.
I tried again, but every time I opened the email tab and came back, the pop up for the emailed code was gone. After 3 tries it told me that I attempted to log in too many times on that email address and wouldn't let me try anymore.
And I literally have 3 codes in my email in box.
Classified ads are all scams, but if you're looking at a common, expensive item they will suggest classified ads without any marking that they're fake.
When you see a classified ad that's 60% of market rate or 50% of market rate, obviously it's a scam, because the seller could easily get much more money.
Obviously the only reason they're "selling" cheap is to attract suckers to a scam.
But when you're browsing a common expensive item ebay will mix this scams in as suggestions.
It's gotten to the point where I don't click on listings that look cheap.
Can they just NOT?
There are plenty of leftists who are leftist never-Trumpers, they just don't get clickbait headlines
From a number of people here, including Sarah on Twitter today, I'm getting the story that "the left" is the enemy of the Democratic party.
No. The headline that got attention was some tiny portion of people who didn't vote for Kamala because she wouldn't disavow support for Israel attacking and starving Gaza. That was the clickbait. That was how the people for whom engagement is more important than truth had something to rant about. That's how people who haven't updated their priors since the Cold War can laugh with their right wing friends.
Take some context from one of Ta Nehisi Coates interviews with Tim Miller where he said he met with someone whose family was killed in Gaza, and he felt dirty if he had to suggest to her that she vote for Kamala. He said that if he were her, he doesn't know what he would do. He doesn't know if he could bring himself to vote for someone who supported the policy that killed his family.
Sarah's recent tweet made me think that there's some paranoia there, left over, maybe from being on the right.
Plenty of real leftists supported Kamala because they opposed Trump. But those leftists aren't noticed. They're not a headline. They're not complained about by cold war Democrat types.
Let me give you an example.
One of the big organizers of non-violent protests is this person:
https://www.youtube.com/@ParkrosePermaculture
Known as Parkrose Permaculture, Angela Baker had a big channel on Tiktok. She largely focused on being against Trump so when Tiktok was bought by Larry Ellison her views per video went down from a hundred thousand to a thousand or so.
You probably think of her as an anti-Trump activist but she is also on the left, and she does commonly say things like "we need to end capitalism." And she also says "vote blue no matter who" because she opposes the Fascism.
Ok?
A quick reminder of the moral necessity for birthright citizenship.
The point of justice and basic goodness is that if you don't have birthright citizenship, then there will be babies born in your country who will never have citizenship in any country who will only be victimized and exploited or enslaved by someone. And blaming their parents isn't moral, a child isn't responsible for the mistakes of their parents.
Having no country will be true in a practical sense even for the rest of the illegals because they don't belong where they were born and grew up which is a basic human right. And fear of the law may make them lack the protection of police, the right to school, the right to medical care.
Instead of growing up as citizens they will grow up as dirt beneath our feet. And that is by design. We will have created a slave class out of hatred and contempt for children by their color. Never forget that their color is the motivation.
Democrats need to block money for Iran - or if only we could be poorer.
There have been weird posters and commentors the last couple of days in this subreddit breathlessly, hysterically insisting that Democrats need to jump to pay Iran what comes to $2000 per income-tax payer as quickly as possible! Update: maybe it's a better message to not divide Americans into income-tax payers and non-income tax payers the way Republicans often do and just say that every American would owe Iran $1000.
The reddit kerfuffle started with that tweet by Chuck Schumer that I'm sure everyone has seen. And Schumer is right. Go read everything JVL or the other writers at the Bulwark have written about the Iran war. Iran got its economy back already, sanctions are gone, they can export all their oil, they will take a toll on everyone going through the strait.
They showed that America can't get rid of their huge missile cache and that they can take out oil and gas fields all around the gulf.
They won everything they ever wanted except having their leaders survive.
So Schumer is right. Democrats need to block the money and humiliate the Republicans. Democrats need to block the money and humiliate the Republicans.
150 million Americans pay income tax, (and since this money isn't going to come from the Social Security fund) if you pay income tax then you owe Iran $2000 on average. Democrats need to pound the hell out of that message. And every American will be poorer, just like what the Iraq war did to us, but in only 3 months. Trump loses FAST!
Update: maybe it's a better message to not divide Americans into income-tax payers and non-income tax payers the way Republicans often do and just say that every American would owe Iran $1000.
Iran is not going to risk a lot to take our money. We can afford this risk.
By the way, as to the argument that the money isn't planned on coming from Americans, J. D. Vance said that in his first interview on this. But then he pivoted. Now it seems like he's saying that Americans are going to pay. Probably Trump got worried that Iran would hurt his image again if they're not bribed with all of the money in the world instantly and since he doesn't care about America, only about himself he told Vance to stop hurting his new Iranian masters with any implication that the money won't come immediately. Trump does FAWN.
So we've been seeing these weird non-convincing arguments. One post was saying that if we don't give them all of our money now then Trump will kill everyone and it will be our fault.
And that's stupid, Trump doesn't want to be humiliated more and the only outcome available to him is more humiliation.
The other commentor's argument seemed to go something like Zionists are evil warmongers, Schumer is an evil Zionist so we have to send to the money now in order to oppose Israeli evil!
Even more incoherent, but 300 billion is a lot of money so I guess Iran has to send at least one bot to try to convince Democrats to let that money through quietly. What do they have to lose? So brace for the social media storm. If you're old enough to remember M.A.S.H "incoming!"
'Schumer Is Far Out of Touch': 80% of New York Democrats Oppose US Weapons Transfers to Israel
Tim Miller likes to point out that to the extent that Democratic leaders vote for war, they're refusing the opportunity to get former Trump voters who are anti-war.
And the same goes for supporting Israel's unbelievably unpopular acts of war.
