"What's the Best You Can Do?" - Appropriate Question for Sellers?
Hi All!
I'm both a buyer and seller. I've had great experiences with all the rehomes I've purchased. People have been responsive and taken the time to answer questions. If I message someone about a post, it's for more pictures, and sometimes I decide to buy it, sometimes I don't. That's been my experience as a seller as well - people ask for more pictures and then they determine whether it's a good fit for them or not.
I had a recent experience with a user who asked for pictures (totally fine and expected), and then asked me questions that were disclosed on the initial post (factory information, price, stitching, leather type). I even mentioned that another sub was doing a group buy for this seller and that if they were interested in getting it cheaper, they could look into it. I don't believe in gatekeeping information, even if it means losing a sale.
Now here's where it really irked me. I know sometimes a bag is a bit too expensive, and maybe people ask for a discount if it doesn't sell within a couple of days/weeks/whatever timeline. This user asked "What's the best you can do?” If you're trying to get it for a lower price, have the decency to say what you think it's worth and not just ghost or say something rude when I respond with the listed price. "Would you consider $XYZ?" is much better because at least you considered the quality of the product and maybe just don't have that extra amount at the moment. And if this person were looking for the same bag but cheaper, they could have ordered through the group buy.
In my opinion, this person wasn't serious about the bag from the beginning and didn't value my time. They clearly didn't bother to go to the original post and read the information provided, which would've answered a lot of questions and maybe saved us both a lot of time.
I always put that I'm happy to answer questions. I still talk to people who I have bought rehomes from and people who have bought rehomes from me. Let's just be kind and civil with one another 💕
