How to deal with riding anxiety after a crash?

Hi! How did you deal with anxiety after a motorcycle accident?

During my course, I had an accident while making a turn. I wanted to stop to let a car pass but my instructor told me I still had enough time to continue. I panicked and, trying to get through the maneuver quickly, I gave too much throttle for such a small curve. Then I panicked even more and opened the throttle again. At that point, I fixated on a street lamp and crashed into it.

I own my own motorcycle now but I still feel a lot of anxiety before every ride. I almost have to force myself to get on the bike. Once I start riding I shake and hyperventilate for the first few minutes. After about 10 minutes I calm down and everything feels normal again, which always makes me think the next ride will be easier but so far it hasn’t really improved.

Have any of you experienced something similar? How did you cope with it? Any advice would really help. Thanks!

Hoi!
