Passing judgement on a braggart

I volunteer for a small organization. One person was elected leader (literally no one else ran). I had some apprehension about their suitability but dialed it down- I dont want the job, right?

Anyhow this person talks about their past achievements alot. It was ok at first, as were getting to know each other and they are a new leader wanting to assert their capabilities.

It is tiresome now. It is incessant. Anything anyone could say, at a meeting or socially, is met with a one up. "I mowed my lawn yesterday" will likely be met with how they used to own a lawn care business.

I think about this person a lot and how much this behavior annoys me. It makes me angry kind of. Like I want to say, "shut UP!"

I would never talk about myself this way. I do not boast about my achievements & have had difficulty accepting compliments & congratulations. I think, " does this behavior bother me because I struggle to assert myself?" Or do I hate this behavior because it inherently sucks? They responded to a SM comment on our organization page recently that was a long prattling list of things they'd done/studied/worked on. Truly, it is unprofessional. It is likely their compensation for their own insecurities. Regardless, it bothers me more than it should and I want to put it down. I have no clue how to address it or if that would even be worthwhile. Any strategies on how stop obsessing & just let this person be?

Deep dark water

I dreamt I was in a cave. The cave was historically significant/related to an industry of a time gone by. I was there to learn, experience or find something pertaining to this local history. This makes sense in my everyday life, and seems to be a dream jumble of a real life underground prison i was reading about plus the ruins of a factory i grew up near. I am in my childhood home again and spending time learning about this old factory lately.

ANYHOW im underground, There was gray rock and lots of still, deep dark water. I understood the water to be filled with old chemicals or minerals from the factory. Probably toxic/should avoid. Don't want to dredge it up. But i also had this sense of, well I've been around these chemicals/this old factory all my life anyway im probably immune to it. I tried not to fall in but Im not agile and I did fall in a couple times. It was scary but I reassured myself i was immune to the toxins. It was so deep. I fell in deep and swam to the surface. It was unpleasant.

I then encountered 2 men from the local history community I know and respect. I pretended I didnt already fall in. They were far away, I had to do a difficult maneuver to cross and they cautioned me against falling in, that its dangerous.

I tried very hard not to fall in again because they were watching/didnt want them to be concerned but I fell in anyways. I tried to tell myself I was ok. They were gone it was just me contemplating the water. What had I done? Would i be ok? I felt uneasy but not terrified. The water felt tied to the past.

Not a recurring dream. I felt bothered but curious when I woke up. As for major changes in life, I am back in my childhood home caring for elderly parent. Lot of coming to terms w past but also navigating the future is scary. Creatively I have been doing well but my life feels like a house of cards: increasingly unstable

Waitlist for Nursing Home

Hi. Where i live all of the decent nursing homes have waitlists. I got my parent onto a few of them. What happens when they call and say a bed is available? Do you have to move in immediately? Wondering how fast I will need to pivot when that call comes and what I can do to prepare. Will need to sell house almost immediately.

Thanks!

Crabby daddy

Just got into an argument with my cognitively declining, wheelchair bound Dad, who, after 9pm opened the front door, to presumably go out, and idk, lose control on the ramp in the dark??. I said "hey Dad! Whaddya doin? And he said "what!! What does it LOOK like im doing i wanna take a look outside what's WRONG WITH THAT?!"

When he talks to me like that it is SO triggering. I yelled right back. That he could hurt himself. That is why I am stuck here with him. He is in a wheelchair, and cannot understand why it is unsafe to go out.

He just wanted to see if he could see the fireworks. So I understand the impulse. (Still not safe tho!) And now I feel bad for getting so dysregulated. Yet he started yelling at me first. And in a half hour im going to have to put him to bed and wipe his old crabby ass. UGH

Tarot as a focus exercise

I dont read tarot or have a deck, but enjoy getting readings by a specific artist in particular, who draws them, a few times a year. Im fascinated by the art, cards and meanings but was not interested in becoming a reader. I want to get my cards read alot more but I sort of regard it as a "treat."

Anyhow I saw a sm post recently where someone said they pulled one card a day as a type of mindfulness/focus exercise. Just pull a card and take some time to contemplate and sit with what comes up. Now I thought Wow! I could really use some grounding in my life rn and I was so intrigued. For the first time i kind of want to get a deck and try this out. I have such a hard time sitting still/meditation of any sort but I do love thinking about the cards.

Now I'm curious about different adaptations or exercises that are NOT doing a reading for someone else. How do you use tarot for yourself, by yourself? How does it calm you down and give you focus in your personal life?

Thanks!

Conservatorship? Who's done it?

Been taking care of parent for a year. They have a good income between pension and social security but need so much care the money is running out. I moved back in a year ago and my money, willingness and ability to deal is also running out.

It's time for next steps: I'm looking at long term facilities. Having a very hard time w that- many are not good, they have long wait lists, and are exorbitant.

Looking at voluntary conservatorship (financially and medically) as another possibility that could give them a chance at going on medicaid at home.

Anyone have any experience with this? Would love to hear your advice and stories. Thanks.

Update/advice

Edit: Photo in comments! Forgot to upload.

Hi, posted awhile ago asking if a diorama was "do-able" skill wise and low budget wise for a small museum. Thanks for the encouragement and advice!

I went with Styrofoam sheets 1) because the shape perfectly matched the shape of the display case it will go in 2) price. Yes they are not ideal material but they were fine!

I built up the terrain using crumpled paper bag and tape, then paper mached 4 layers (newspaper, paper towel, tissue paper) with mod podge. I reinenforced the sides/edges with cereal box cardboard before adding the paper mache.

The center is a pond, flowing into a canal, with a few old mill buildings. The land is gently hilly with grass and dirt and trees (think new england).

So: what do you suggest for next steps? Am I ready for paint? I have some Liquitex Acrylics. Green for land and blue for water. Or do you recommend "underpainting" the base first, with a neutral line gray then detailing the landscape? I would like to get some scenery grass and trees from woodland scenics. Should I work on the buildings before painting the base? I keep thinking ill pop them in later, but maybe should be working in tandem.

Thank you again! Ive been enjoying this so far and excited to progress to next steps.

I am in an extremely uncomfortable limbo place in life rn. I have to make some big decisions/moves, which feel beyond me and i asked a broad question: will we end up staying Here or moving There. I take care of an elderly parent so it would be about our or my future not a romance relationship.

A friend pulled cards for me: The Devil + Hierophant + 4 of Cups. I saw how it reflected my situation and it felt accurate in more ways than one. I wanted to learn more about these cards & their meanings. Everything i find online says Hierophant + Devil. Doesnt the order influence the meaning though? What does this specific order say?

Any insight on the cards? I feel like they reveal my stagnancy but do they say anything about how to start moving forward in a positive direction? Any insight appreciated. Thank you.

Has anyone been to Foxwoods or Mohegan to watch the Kentucky Derby? Haven't been to the casinos in years but I love to watch the Derby. Will have some family in town and would be fun to put a few bucks down. Not as interested in their ticketed events as I am in watching the race and placing some bets.

Will it be so crowded and overblown that this is a bad idea or is there potential for casual fun?

What's better, foxwoods, Mohegan or about the same?

Staying near mystic.

Thanks!
