What are your thoughts on prejudice within some of our communities?

As an afro-caribbean person, it kinda shocks my fellow people when I tell them I'm not exactly a big fan of afro-centrism, even if i do agree with some of where it comes from (colonial trauma and distrust of and exploitation by whites). Where I often draw the line, is when people start leaning into the same racist dialogues that racist whites or Asians might use. I know someone who always tells me, not to spend any money at the Chinese store just a walk down the road, and instead to buy from the local lady we know, whom I'd have to drive to in order to patronize

His argument, was that the money doesn't stay in the country because they send it to their family in China, and that they dont like black people. It didn't make too much sense to me, because they employ some locals, get their supplies from locals, pay their taxes, etc. And, I've never met any Chinese person who was actually rude to me, even if they look deadpan. Its no different than walking into a supermarket, and the cashier might have a bad day.

It just seemed like he had actual economic concerns, but went too far to the point that he was just being xenophobic.

And dont even get me started on the historical revisionism. I have a big interest in jewish history, and I know someone who basically ignores everything I factually say, to basically say Jews aren't real jews. And I've heard this from some of the rastafarians quite often, and it's honestly a headache trying to reason with them too.

Do you guys experience things like this too?

This Show Is Honestly Super Cool

There's just something about the fact, that adolescents are in tanks, that just evokes a sense of pride, power and genuine aura. People keep joking that I'm a diddler because I watch a show with high school girls in it (I can see why, considering the few moments of fanservice with the older characters). But like, think about it for a second. Imagine you have a sister, who's maybe 15, she goes to school. She's the typical high school girl and maybe she's extra girly and likes cute things. One day, you find out she joined an after school activity. And you're home, and she's waiting for her club members to come pick her up.

And they pull up in a fucking Merkava mk2 tank or Leopard 2, in front of the house. And she hops in, as the commander of an entire battalion waiting on her or something.

THAT, is the appeal to me. It's a bunch of (mostly) kids doing something that is considered one of the coolest things ever. And it's especially more intriguing, because it's girls doing it, not the first demographic you'd expect to be associated with a stereotypically 'manly' activity.

Which is why sometimes, I can't understand why people would just call this creepy. And don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of seeing high school girls in hot springs or bathing suits either. But that's like, a tiny fraction of the show, and 1 or 2 OVA episodes, which probably add up to 30 minutes total throughout the entire series. Most of the show is just a bunch of adolescents and young adults, duking it out in tanks.

And omg, why don't I ever hear anyone talk about how wonderful the dialogue is? The characters have catchphrases and reptitive quirks to them, but somehow, it's never annoying or stale. Alot of the dialogue is actually funny (not belly laughing, but snickers and chuckles), instant and consistent.

Why do I keep seeing this in the TV shows?

I've recently gotten into israeli tv, and i started with the typical tv shows everyone knows about, like Valley of Tears (mwah, fantastic show) and now Fauda (just as fantastic). But, there's this weird theme that i kept seeing throughout, and something that seems to be expected each time.

Why are so many of the characters so outrageously horny? And they're always cheating on their significant other. Like, I just don't understand man.

I literally had to write this up while watching S1 Ep 7, because for some FUCKING reason, steve decides to just smooch nurit out of nowhere after they had a really sweet, platonic moment together (edit: mistook steve for the other guy, who's son is named 'Guy'). And it's not to say the shows glorify cheating or disloyalty to your partner, but I just don't understand why it's there so prevalently, two shows in a row.

It's just kinda annoying and uncomfortable to see so often.

Is it just for dramatic purposes?

I can't stand some of the characters speeches and repetitive jokes

By repetitive jokes, I almost always mean the 'Eriously-se?' or 'Yeah, i didn't understand any of that' kind of quips. I don't know if you get what i mean. Like Senku will start speaking in his scientific way, which obviously the other characters won't understand. And we all know that the next frame will be the characters complaining about how they don't understand him, in the exact same way. Each, and every time. It gets so fucking repetitive and loses it's otherwise funny intent. Like, why are they surprised each time?

And I got so sick and tired of listening to the characters constantly go on monologues almost every episode about how far they came, one after another. WE KNOW BRO. WE DON'T NEED A CONSTANT REMINDER!

Cars on the school ships

Am i the only one who thinks that there shouldn't be anything such as traffic on a school ship?

https://preview.redd.it/xzkxnkekaffh1.png?width=1041&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb51c011a214fc006309baf194c9a58944b9d0c6

I'm gonna guess it's only traffic jammed because everyone's trying to head back on land after the ship docked, thus they're bringing their vehicles with them. But even on the school ships, I'd like to imagine that to keep down whatever traffic there might be, wouldn't they have like an underground metro?

Metro/tram line in red

I just think it would be much more effective for cutting down potential congestion and moving people around, rather than just having cars transport most people, especially on a platform like this

Can I do ulpan in israel?

Well obviously. But what I mean, is that can I do it if I stay a week. I'm planning on visiting sometime next year or 2028, given that there aren't too many wars happening at the time. I really want to improve my hebrew, so I was wondering if it's possible to do an ulpan while I'm there

What is the best place to learn hebrew using online sources?

I was using duolingo for a while, which helped me get a grasp on sentence structure and vocabulary. But i know it's not the best resource to use to actually get fluent, so i was curious as to if there are other, interactive or engaging resources I could use

site rant: I hate the hebrew keyboard layout on laptop, so confusing for no reason. Why does the 'M' key, not type 'מ', but rather 'צ' . That just doesn't make sense to me, and now I have to learn how to type a keyboard in a nonsensical style.

What was churchill's relationship and attitude toward the british empire's colonies?

I've heard that Churchill, despite commanding millions of indian soldiers, was quite the gigantic racist. I'm curious on whether or not he applied the same lack of care or disdain for other populations of the empire?

Obviously doesn't have to go into every single colony or dominion or protectorate. But a detailed enough explanation

Is it wrong that I don't have a wholly negative view of menachem begin?

Am I the only one who kinda likes him? Like, I've often been pretty close to calling that guy my hero for his motivations during the mandate period, though I'm not sure why. His speech, to reach out to the mizrachim who'ds been discriminated against by the labor governemnt, really resonated with me.

Though maybe I'm just viewing him from one end of the lens. What do israelis usually think about him and his past? Or what about his mistakes and his handling of the first lebanon war?

Why is israeli PR so terrible?

Like, I used to be a big anti-zionist right, but after a while I realized "wait, there's no way israelis are as evil as they say right?". So I went out, did my research, and realized that the conflict is so complex that I could never be an anti-zionist.

Like, the IDF has had quite a few cases where it's not as bloodthirsty as people like to say, and in other cases as you often hear, you'll have some trigger happy soldiers with a questionably complicit commander, kill someone when they might not have had a reason to. So it's not black and white.

There are numerous cases where the IDF could have easily explained it's actions in more detail. But they always settle for 'HAMAS was here, so we hit it', without providing anymore evidence that they CLEARLY have. And somehow act surprised when nobody, even pro-israelis, fully takes their word for it.

edit: Is this lack of explaining in their PR because of a defeatist attitude?

Why and how did so many morrocan and tunisian jews leave their home countries?

I heard that some zionist organisations had something to do with it, paying off monarchs or something? But this sounds a bit too on the nose to be real or not out of context, and sounds suspicioulsy like an anti-semetic talking point disguised as anti-zionism

Mushoko Tensei Should Never Join This Show

Not only because of the fact the show is produced by Toho, thus creating some legal headaches to even get the property and is, in my opinion, a bit too serious to really fit the lackadaisical vibe of IQ. But also because I just hate mushoko tensei, particularly rudeus.

I just really hated it's centralizing around rudeus' perversion and I nearly stopped watching the show after the S1 'implied' sex-scene. Woohoo, I just LOVE having to imagine two minors going at it. I just LOOOOVE that. And i stopped completely about 4 eps after finishing S2, I just couldn't be bothered to watch a scumbag like rudeus anymore.

So no, I'm not interested in seeing this pedophillic, unlikable pervert interact with some of my favorite characters. The only how I'd be able to enjoy mushoko tensei in isekai quartet, is if MT just removed all the gross elements about rudeus and kept it's genuinely interesting story

Help With Country Making

I'm writing a fanfic based on the anime Attack on Titan, and I decided to have it placed in a somewhat similar world, but with some differences. For context, there is a continent similar to europe, and on this continent, there are but aren't limited to, three major empires that gobbled up most of the territory. Only a few countries remain independent, largely by being either rump states, vassal states or genuine independent states. It was only 120 years prior however, that the entire continent and some places beyond, was dominated by the Eldian Imperial (aka 2nd Eldian Empire) with the use of it's innovative technology and titan warfare. The subjects of the Imperial, those who weren't Eldian, were second and third class citizens and increasingly treated like fodder as time went on.

Long story short, the populations under Eldian control grew more and more rebellious, and eventually drove the eldians out of their lands through a long, bloody process. The original eldian homeland, where the liberation armies had squeezed the eldians into, was left as a de-militarized rump state.

There's Purisia, which neighbours Ymir's Garden, and was officially a neutral country upon the liberation armies driving the eldians out 120 years prior. And acted as a refuge for any refugees fleeing the conflict (almost all of whom were eldians leaving the newly established countries).

Now, to get to the naming. The three empires, atleast the names I've given them, are the Totaman (something), the Sargonia (Officially Sargonian Empire) and the Uchavian Volost. The totamans are obviously meant to parallel the Ottoman Empire, though I'm not sure what they should actually be. Whether an empire or a kingdom. The totamans are also a failing empire that is growing increasingly discriminatory and violent towards it's eldian population

The Sargonian Empire is meant to be something like the British, French and German empire all in one, as well as the most powerful one. So I was thinking of a better name for it, something more befitting it's Germanic-Anglo nature.

The Uchavian Volost is meant to be the parallel to the Soviet Union, and is considered very controlling but not necessarily oppresive of it's small eldian population, due to their strategic use as potential titans and titan shifters. The reason the eldian population is so small, is because during the rebellions against the Eldian Imperial, the Uchas were among the most violent and thus many Eldians (seeing the writing on the wall) would flee and take refuge in Purisia (30% of Purisia's Eldian population originate from Uchavian Volost).

I think most of these names are stupid and too on the nose, except maybe the totamans.

Any ideas?

What I took away from this show

At first, when I started, I thought it was just gonna be constant bleakness. And it was don't get me wrong. But I was so fascinated by how, despite how fucked up everyone's life is, their evil actions seem par for the course. Like yes, it feels fitting that Shizuka would manipulate Azuma and became deranged to the point of murder.

But it was the end of the show, the most memorable and tear jerking part, when takopi couldn't give her all the answers, it really resonated with me and i think i understood what the message was supposed to be. Sometimes, life doesn't have an explanation. It doesn't have the answers, and you won't find it no matter how hard you look. And in Shizuka's case, I think it was coming to terms with that and deciding to look forward nonetheless, rather than curling in on yourself in nihillistic hopeless apathy. All you need is just a little push for that to happen.

And friends...best not to forget getting those. Her and marina becoming friends was very satisfying, because that's all they really needed

Any Fanfiction Recommendations?

I'd prefer something that's intriguing, maybe even a little angsty. Preferably yuri and nothing overtly sexual, especially around underage characters

What happens after school?

I often find it sad whenever someone graduates. Do they maintain their friendships, or did tankery keep the cohesion together? Something that would be really cool is if the teams actually stay together in some form throughout their adulthood if they take up professional tankery (if that's actually a thing. Like a regular sports team). Maybe there's even a tankery section of the olympic games.

just imagine if the duck team are all in the their mid-30s and playing professionally. I guess i just cant stand the thought of seperating and going into new teams over and over again.

What I Especially Like About Tensura

Please don't think I'm weird. I have a huge fascination with nation building and many of it's aspects intrigue me, especially the idea that people who literally lived like tribal, dirt people can suddenly look like and have the knowledge of professional people from our world. The idea of some goblin or orc going to university and becoming a director or assitant to a respectable institution is deeply satisfying to me. Maybe it's what goes into nation building that I like. I'll try to explain, because even I don't exactly understand why I like these specific aspects of the show.

When Gobwa was introduced in the anime, and I found out she was deputy commander (i think?), I found her uniform and her air of professionalism very enjoyable. I find the idea of Rigurd being prime minister very enjoyable, as well as other subordinates being given high positions in the government. Jom (Yome) essentially being installed by rimuru as a pseudo-puppet for Falmouth was very enjoyable and likable, i guess giving rimuru an air of power and influence around him.

Geld and his men building the roads, and those roads eventually having a magical defense system in the form of devices in the roads. The idea of the magi-train is just so cool, and I'd love to see the infrastructure planning and consctruction crews and process to get everything built. And even at a train depot, the image of rimuru visiting it to find all the different workers from different backgrounds working on different things fascinates me and would fill me with a deep satisfaction.

Omg, if they developed tanks, I would die happy. The idea of rigur or gobwa or whoever, sitting atop a tank with their headset commanding an entire column to move forward is cool.

something I think would be super cool is if they found oil, and rimuru used his basic knowledge fractional distillation to make gasoline, propane, tar, etc. And like, there's an entire facility built to process and extract these hydrocarbons and they build cars or hydrocarbon-fueled vehicles and machines, sell them overseas and sell the fuel?

and although tensura probably wont do all this, its the only isekai that comes close to actually satisfying that nation building itch

Am I making sense or am i just rambling? I dont understand this feeling
