Vet recommendation for rabbits

I have a newly acquired rabbit that a friend could no longer dedicate time to. She’ll need vaccinations next month (and a general check up) so wondering if anyone has recommendations for a vet. I’m also looking into getting her a friend, are there any rescue organisations nearby? Thanks!

WIBTA for not changing a birthday party venue that doesn’t allow service dogs for a last minute guest with one?

So I booked my daughter’s birthday party at a local wildlife park/zoo a few months ago. We’ve just got word from my partner’s parents that his aunt, who has a service dog, will be visiting for it with them. The aunt hasn’t visited in years.

The park has free roaming animals and does not allow service dogs on site, they offer space for service dogs to go in and can offer a trained human assistant/guide for the aunt for the day (I’m honestly unclear on the specifics of her disability and if this is an acceptable/feasible solution).

My partner’s parents don’t think this will work and think it’s rude to ask the aunt to do this, they want us to reorganise the party somewhere aunt can attend. I don’t want to, but I’m happy to throw a second, smaller party for her and suggested they could take her out to other touristy things during the main party.

My partner feels guilty because he is fond of his aunt, our kid doesn’t even remember who she is so doesn’t care if she can come or not, and his parents think I’m being an asshole for not being willing to change venues (we’d lose a deposit and have already sent out invitations and gotten some RSVPs at this point). To complicate things we also have no means of contacting the aunt ourselves (she changes numbers regularly because she can’t help but give it out frequently and gets lots of scammers calling her).

Family member just announced they’re visiting for my kid’s birthday, kid has picked a party venue that doesn’t allow them

I’m not sure how to approach this situation.

My partner’s aunt has announced she’s coming down on a trip that coincides with my daughter’s birthday party. My daughter’s birthday is at a zoo with some free-range animals so does not allow service dogs on the site. We booked this months ago, before we knew she was coming, and I honestly had no even looked at the policy surrounding service animals. She hasn’t visited in years, my daughter doesn’t remember her, so I wasn’t exactly expecting her to come.

My partner’s parents want us to move where the party is, we’ve already paid a deposit, sent out invites to friends and gotten RSVPs so that’s be difficult. We don’t have her number and can’t contact her about what’s going on to see what she wants to do (although I’m trying to get that). The zoo says they can provide a trained person to guide her around if she’s able to leave her dog outside but it feels really rude to ask her to do that - is that something that can be asked? I also don’t want to spring this all on her when she’s here.

Do you come across situations where your service dog can’t accompany you often, if so what do you do? I’m hoping we get her number soon so my partner can text her what the plan is and what can be done in terms of accomodation. I’m very happy to organise a second party she can attend.

Don’t like my engagement ring or any of the rings at the jeweller it was purchased at

So I’m not a big jewellery person but what I have runs into the more alternative style. I also didn’t want anything particularly expensive because I would not be comfortable wearing it, I’m clumsy and my fingers are weirdly tapered so rings come off easy.

My partner proposed (yay) and the ring is not hideous, it’s a pretty standard ring. It’s not in a metal I would choose, I’d rather a coloured stone than a diamond and it’s just to me kinda boring? I sent him links to rings I liked (all under 1k) and I’m kind of annoyed this is what I’ve ended up with (which sounds bratty, I know).

It was also about 5k which makes it the most expensive object I own. We can do an exchange so I’ve had a look through the jeweller’s website and none of the rings jump out to me, we could go expensive for wedding bands from them and still have thousands in credit we won’t use.

Anyone else been in a similar boat and how did it resolve?

How old was your child before they could enjoy a foreign film with subtitles?

My oldest is six so I’m not expecting this any time in the near future but I was looking through the program of a children’s international film festival near me wondering when I might be able to try them out. So many interesting sounding movies but most in their original language (fair enough).

I feel like I was watched Ghibli with subtitles sometime in my tweens.

Kids over on play dates with my daughter keep trying to involve me with play - normal?

My daughter is six and I’ve been trying to be proactive and set up more play dates for her. I set up snacks, pull out a couple of toys and set up some craft supplies and then try to do my own thing - honestly more effort than my parents would’ve made back in the day.

I’ve noticed a running theme of our child guests wanting me to be playing and doing the crafting too. They want me to play the board game, they say they need my help to do the craft, or they just keep coming into the kitchen to see what I’m doing. I remember as a kid basically wanting to not be noticed by parents on play dates, I wasn’t remotely interested in adults as play mates.

To a lesser extent I’ve seen this at my kid’s school when she goes on the playground at pick up time - random kids will ask me to watch them do something or offer me stickers or something. I commented on it to my husband and he said he’d noticed it at the pool - she’s got a friend there who also tries to play with him probably as much as our daughter.

Is this something anyone else has noticed with kids?
