POV: Broken Femur--Step-by-Step Orthopedic Surgery

I work at a level 1 trauma center in orthopedic surgery. ~15% of our fracture surgeries are to repair a broken femur. Femur fractures happen across all age groups, with the most common age category being the elderly (65+). Generally, ground level falls are to blame as the cause for the majority of these fractures. In young patients, we see everything from dirt bike accidents to falls from height to high-speed car crashes.

Regardless of age, the treatment to repair a broken femur usually involves inserting a titanium rod into the canal of the bone to stabilize the fracture. While the pain from surgery and the fracture does not immediately go away, fixing the break allows for early return to weight bearing and independence.

Check out this POV walkthrough of how this process happens inside the OR. Pretty incredible technology!

POV: Orthopedic Surgery--Bone Harvesting

I work at a Level 1 trauma center in orthopedic trauma surgery. We treat hundreds of high-energy fractures each year.

At times, fractures don’t heal—a nonunion of the bone. Typically, poor metabolic health, infection, or segmental bone loss are the biggest contributors to this problem.

In patients with a nonunion, there are conservative options like nutrient supplementation or bone stimulators that can be tried. Others require a much more aggressive treatment to perform bone grafting at the nonunion site.

Bone harvesting is quite possibly the MOST BRUTAL surgery we perform—up there with amputations.

The end results of healing are excellent post-harvest and grafting.

Images don’t do this process justice. This is a surgery best seen through our eyes inside the operating room. Check it out!

Unlocked/Jailbroken Streaming Devices??

What are your experiences with unlocked streaming devices i.e. ONN 4k Pro, Firestick 4k that are available for purchase?

My main use for this would be for IPTV, live sports capabilities. I already have access to all movies/tv shows from another service. I'm new to the IPTV game and am trying to figure out best options. Thanks!

POV: Orthopedic Surgeons Fix a Broken Humerus

I work in orthopedic trauma surgery at a Level 1 trauma center. We treat hundreds of patients per year with upper arm/shoulder fractures. Our patients routinely ask, "What ACTUALLY happens in surgery?"

We've compiled some--Inside the OR--surgical footage that gives a very insightful breakdown as to what goes on during an operation. More importantly, it helps explain why it can take so long to get full mobility and function back.

Lost ID while traveling

I lost my wallet while traveling domestically in the United States. Has anyone had experience with lost identification using the new TSA Confirm ID process. I need to fly home Tuesday, leaving from SLC.

It says it costs $45 and you need to show up multiple hours prior to your departure to ensure adequate time for this verification process.

Is this airport dependent on timing? Anything I should do or know? Any help appreciated!

When to throw in the towel??

I’m a physician assistant working in orthopedic trauma surgery. I have a pair of Meta Ray-Ban glasses that I’ll use to capture various different surgeries we perform. Fractures galore!

I’ve started to create and post a catalog of these surgeries onto my
YouTube channel—
“Ortho POV”

To be honest, I think the content is well edited and insightful. Pretty cool stuff that not many are doing in this way. I also understand that not everyone is interested in blood and bone carpentry 😅

Despite the gore, is my channel ironically too bland?

Do I just need to temper my expectations about growth, especially given my content is more based in long form expression? Do I need to hit YouTube shorts more frequently? The problem with TikTok/Facebook/IG is my videos get flagged routinely because it is too graphic🙈

Just hoping the algorithm Gods shine brightly on me one day 🙏

Would love any kind of feedback about my videos, channel, ideas, growth!
Thanks!

Audio Download??

I want to download the audio from this website. The archived speech is old enough that it doesn’t have video accompanying it or a toggle option to skip ahead in the speech. I want to use specific blurbs in a presentation I have for church responsibilities.

Can someone help me with a way/website to extract the talk into an audio file? I’m pure noob sauce when it comes to this. Thanks
