SR540 vs SR800-upgrades?
I've rarely been happy with my roasts and after trying many variations on ROR and overall timing I'm ready for a better option
I see the 900 is on the horizon with a built in thermocouple
I just watched a video of someone roasting with the SR800 and the airflow is apparently vastly more powerful
Can someone who has had both comment?
I've been roasting 100-120 g every few days from many different locales
I usually go for light-medium roasts edging into dark at times.
I've let them rest for 2-5 days in a mild vacuum
I do pour over with a Kalita Wavw. Pour enough water at 195F to let the medium ground 20 g per cup rise and degas (2+ min)
They pour over
I'm ready for DIY thermocouple but wonder if I'd get better results with the 800 anyway
So far my results are better than cheap roasted beans.
I've had better roasted from Sweet Maria's or Peets if the roast is a week old or less
The only benefit I'm seeing right now is cost- which matters
$8/lb is preferred to $20!
I do write down my fan, heat and timing as well as fan air temp
I know that's not bean temp as they have heat capacity and temp varies as they lose water
My roast times are 10-12 minutes
"First crack" varies but it also sounds like individual beans cracking and maybe less than 10 total so it's impossible to measure development time
