The Best Part of the Day

The Best Part of the Day

The best part of the day at Couples Sans Souci might be the hour in between. (But I could make the case that every hour is the best.)

After a long day of sunshine, saltwater, and sand, we head back to our room, shower, slip into our Couples robes, and open the bottle of champagne we have stocked in the minibar each day. (Pro tip: bring your own unbreakable champagne flutes and a champagne stopper.)

Then we slow down.

We sit together on our balcony overlooking the Caribbean, watch the sun gradually settle toward the horizon, sip our champagne, and enjoy the quiet. No schedule. No phones. Nowhere we need to be for a little while.
Just the two of us, the sound of the sea, a Jamaican sunset, and that peaceful feeling that comes at the end of a perfect beach day.

Eventually, we’ll get dressed for dinner. Our resort finest - looking good for each other on our weeklong date.

But for now, we’re perfectly content right here. And tomorrow we'll get up and do it all over again.🥂🌅🇯🇲

The Drink That Dropped Me on My Ass

You know how it goes. You arrive, get checked into your room, unpack just enough to pretend you’re organized, then make a beeline for the beach bar.

“Bartender’s choice,” I said. “Give me something that says, ‘Welcome home’ to Jamaica.”

He smiled and handed me what he called a Bob Marley. Not the frozen Bob Marley we all know and love. This was several ounces of layered liqueurs, one of which I’m still convinced was cough syrup.

Stupid, naive me drank the whole thing. Then I followed it with a couple of perfectly familiar cocktails because, at that point, what could possibly go wrong?

I have only a vague recollection of the rest of the evening. Based on the timestamps on my photos, I appear to have remained upright for several more hours, although I have no independent memory of doing so.

Subreddit Feature Suggestion

Every other post in this subreddit seems to deal with the AppleTV streaming app, despite the rules of this subreddit restricting content to posts dealing with the AppleTV 4K streaming device. The problem was complicated when Apple dropped the Apple+ name for its streaming service and adopted the same AppleTV name for the device, the app and the streaming service.

Rather than continuing to fight a battle against non-device content, I'd like to suggest that the mods implement a mandatory post flair structure, with flairs for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV Streaming. The latter flair could cover both streaming content and the app itself, although those could be split into separate flairs.

Post flairs allow filtering of subreddit content, so those interested in only one topic or another could just select the appropriate flair to read only those posts.

This would allow this subreddit to leverage its prime real estate in owning the AppleTV name to broaden its user base, drive more traffic, and attract more users.

Quiet Time

There is a special time that falls between the last hours on the beach and the beginning of dinner. The beach slowly empties. The sounds of the day soften. The resort settles into a brief, quiet pause.

You return to your room with the warmth of the sun still on your skin. You shower, change, and perhaps open a bottle of wine to share on the balcony while the sky begins to turn golden. There is time for conversation, for intimacy, for simply being together without anywhere else to be.

Then, before dinner, you make one last stop at the martini bar. It may be the quietest part of the day, but for many, it becomes the most romantic. The beach has ended, the evening has not yet begun, and for a little while, the resort seems to belong entirely to the two of you.

How Low Can You Go?

Wife and I failed to notice our Honda Prologue needed a charge as we headed out for a meeting and found we had 50 miles of charge available and a round trip distance of almost 40 miles to go. We questioned whether we should find a charger after our meeting (strangely there didn't seem to be much available in the area we were in). We ultimately headed home, trusting that the miles it was reporting as available was accurate. We made it home with 15 miles of charge left. It's good to know the remaining charge estimate is reliable.

Transition in Trust Accounts

A question that is not state specific.

I wonder how estate planning attorneys might react this post and response from a Fidelity representative:

https://www.reddit.com/r/fidelityinvestments/s/s7E5GXB6HC

Often it seems, one benefit that is touted for revocable trusts is that they enable a successor trustee to slide into position and continue operating trust accounts to pay ongoing estate expenses without delay. But here a major brokerage is saying "not so fast." They would require any successor trustee to open new accounts (in the name and SSN of the successor trustee - even if the successor is the survivor of a married couple that established the trust (if the account was not originally under their SSN)) and move assets over. And of course that would entail getting new payment methods established - checks, debit cards, online bill pay and accounts, etc., which introduces more potential delay.

I realize there are other benefits to use of a revocable trust, but it does seem that ease of transition is perhaps being a bit oversold.

Searching for Transactions in Cash Management Account

Is there a way to search for a specific transaction in one's cash management account (such as searching by vendor/payee name)? The search symbol just brings up a search on ticker symbols. How do I find a specific transaction?

We just booked our 10th visit to a Couples resort - our 9th to Sans Souci. We'll be Home in less than a month, and enjoying the sunsets with a bottle of very cheap champagne from our balcony in G block (hopefully). It's been 14 months since our last visit - an unusually long gap for us. I can't wait to get back. I've made note of the feedback here from recent guests about changes, what's good, and what's not. I hope to bring back some reviews and pictures from our visit. If there's anything you'd like me to focus on or get pictures of, let me know, and I'll do my best to accommodate.

Last spring, we took our Prologue into the dealership for one of the service bulletin updates. The good part is that we did get the Android 14 and feature updates. However, we have been left with an unresolved problem. As you can see from the picture, the vehicle image on the vehicle status screen is missing. We check in with the dealership on a roughly monthly basis to ask whether Honda/GM have resolved this issue yet. The answer we keep getting back is that it has not yet been fixed. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this problem as a result of an update and whether anyone knows if there is any resolution for it. We have not yet taken our Prologue in for the recall. Perhaps that will address this problem as well
