Dog Walker Recs?

In search of a local dog walker / sitter. Just moving to North Slope with my 4 y/o Golden Retriever. Would prefer an individual owner/operator, not a company with multiple walkers. Likely 1-4 days a week, group walks are just fine! Potentially occasional sitting. Who do people recommend/love? If you’re self-promoting, pls provide references (dm is fine). Thank you!!!

Best wash & go/style for wavy/curly hair?

BWT with natural waves, are there wash/go or wash/style places that take care of your hair and preserve your natural texture? Looking in Brooklyn (manhattan also ok). Not necessarily a curly specific salon, and not looking for a haircut. I have cut down to 1x a week wash days, but it's still rough with arthritis and I'm looking to outsource hair washing (sigh, autoimmune disease sucks), but I love my natural waves - I don't want a blow out. Anyone you know of/love? Price also appreciated!

Doctor Prescribed Enbrel, but refusing to diagnose?

I've had joint pain for several years, and am seronegative with a positive HLA-B27. I trialed and failed Sulfasalazine (DMARD) due to the drug toxicity. My doctor has verbally told me she thinks I have peripheral spondyloarthritis. However, when they tried to submit for prior authorization, insurance denied it since the clinical summary has diagnosis as "unspecified chornicity, knee pain" and "HLA-B27 positive" but my insurance requires an RA or AS diagnosis to approve Enbrel. Has anyone experienced this before? I was feeling a lot better on SSZ and am worried about going into a flare while I wait for Enbrel. The difference was literally night and day with medication.

I found a creative way to get off market listings using whoownswhat.justfix.org and wanted to share!

Hi all! I relied super heavily on this subreddit as I went through my apartment search. Both to understand RS laws, general advice, get a sense of what is out there / what I’d have to compromise on. In fact, this post gave me the inspiration for the ultimate method I used to get the best apartments.

The research:

I spent several months stalking streeteasy, zillow, craigslist. This primarily was to get a sense of the market, what was realistic, when things came up, what neighborhoods had availability, etc. Tip: don’t use any filters outside of price. I know that plenty of amenities weren’t “tagged” in, so by filtering through the app, you’re excluding things that may actually have what you want!

The methodology:

I started doing this 4-5 weeks before the targeted start date, and found something in the first few days. I think if I had done it closer to a month out, I would’ve had more options.
I used whoownswhat.justfix.org as the primary vehicle for my search.
I would pick an address in a desired neighborhood and search it, see if multiple buildings came up and what the reports were/ RS status was.
If I liked what I saw (no major reports, several RS units, several buildings (5+). I would take a look at the “who is the landlord of this building” section of the page and google the names.
Usually a property management / realty service would pop up. Call them. Ask if they have stuff coming available. I always said “A friend recommended you guys to me, I’m looking to move for XX date, do you have anything coming up”. Dial by name directories were also sometimes helpful.

I saw several under $2k studios this way before the listing was ever made public. I came in from out of town for a weekend. No broker fee for some of them, but they were so under far market rate that even if I had paid a fee, it would be a unicorn apartment.

Reminder: be flexible about timing and what you need/want, lean into research and do your due diligence. You’ll have to move quickly, I saw my units photos on saturday and signed by wednesday.

Happy to answer questions, I will be trying to reset my habit of refreshing street easy every time I open my phone and reading this sub while commuting.

ETA: The point of this post is to share a good strategy. Not to comment on the apartment I chose. I removed the paragraph where I described the apartment I ended up signing. I saw studios (with private bath and full kitchen) in prime prospect heights for 1.9k, I saw studios (with private bath and full kitchen) in prime PS for 1.9k, etc etc. Like everyone on this sub says, you have to be flexible with what you need and want when searching. I valued being near the park more than having my own bathroom. I wanted to share how I connected with smaller LLs without being in the city or knowing people personally.
