yet another UpsetUpdate post! let me actually clarify things

Alright, I think I originally gave people the wrong impression about this project, so I want to clarify what I’m actually doing.

UpsetUpdate is not supposed to be a general dashboard-porting solution. I’m not claiming I solved BadUpdate porting, and I’m definitely not promising working ports for everyone. My mistake!, I've given the README a final update that should keep things compact.

My goal is stupidly specific: I have one Xbox 360 stuck on 17526 because its internal storage shits itself whenever updating is mentioned, and I want that console to run unsigned code.. That’s it.

The repo is basically my public workbench. It contains upstream code, addresses I’ve manually checked, Ghidra reference files, unfinished changes, guesses, TODOs, and whatever I’m currently throwing at the wall. The current build does not work. I fully expect parts of it to be wrong, and I’m learning as I go.

I have used AI. Period. It did not do the Ghidra work or magically produce a working exploit for me.

I’m keeping everything public because someone might find the notes useful, and honestly, documenting the process is fun. If it eventually works on my console, hell yeah. If it doesn’t, the repo still shows what I tried.

So yeah, this is less “I solved dashboard porting” and more “watch me throw stuff at a wall and see what sticks.”

If you actually know this stuff and notice a specific mistake, genuinely tell me. I’m not trying to act like an expert. I’m trying to make my stupid console run homebrew.

As always, you can find the repo here :

Introducing UpsetUpdate, a port for 17526 in specific.

Not finished yet, and not promising anything, but making progress, this will the github where i'll keep everything updated.

Quick Q&A

Q: Why are you doing this?

A: well why not, i get to challenge myself, and this is kinda of fun.

Q: 17526?, what about my Dashboard?

A: if i get 17526 working, i plan to document the process so other ports are easier to attempt.

Q: When will this release? Will it work?

A: again, no promises, I do know what to do and have stuff planned out for the port, such as "unhardcoding" a few things, don't expect anything out of this.

Q: AI assisted?

A: yeah, but it isnt 'vibecoded', the addresses are being manually found by me using Ghidra, the only use of AI here is to help me get a better work flow going.. if this upsets you (no pun intended) feel free to ignore the project

Q: Just do a RGH.

A: nah sorry

progress on my own BadUpdate port

This isnt about ABadAvatar 1.3 or anything, Just my own side-adventure.

yes, before you comment, doing an RGH on my console would be infinitely easier than this, but now i'm just trying to challenge myself just for the love of the game

after getting some courage I decided to look into an way of automating matching the addresses, it hadnt crossed my mind at first, here are the results, you could theoretically give it any system update and it'd spit out a result much like this aswell

I managed to automate getting some of theses functions addresses with trial and error

i'm trying to get the neccessary ones for un-hardcoding everything up, but i'll try working something out that gives every address value you'd possibly want

what does this mean?, it could potentially make supporting other updates much easier/automated

not promising anything though

Help me transplant a game

I have a Call of Duty: Black Ops LT+ 3.0 backup disc that still authenticates and sometimes even shows the game icon, but after that it just black screens and says the disc is unreadable. It's only lightly scratched, but apparently enough to stop it from loading.

I know Games on Demand are a completely different thing, but I'm talking about the "Installed Game" that the dashboard creates when you choose Install.

Has anyone ever copied one of those between consoles with Horizon/FATXplorer and had it actually work? As in, the console uses the installed files but still authenticates the original disc.

I remember hearing years ago that someone copied installed games between consoles using the dashboard itself, but I have no idea if that's actually true.

The reason I'm asking is because I had a scratched GTA V disc before, and after I somehow managed to get it installed, it played perfectly fine from USB while only needing the disc for authentication. So now I'm wondering if transplanting an Installed Game is actually possible or if there's some console-specific metadata that stops it.

Let's see if Black Ops can survive surgery

Is there really no official way to fix this?

My 360 won't update because it's emmc is unformatted. Pretty much dead from what I can tell.

But still plays games as normal, I save to my usb
